I've heard quite a few covers of this song which have never had that same effect.

Well, I normally hate when people cover songs I grew up with and blast them in review. There are so many terrible versions. This song is supposed to start calm and end loud and strong. Haley captures that very well. This has just enough original and just enough personal to make it a very nice cover.
