The school you chose is the exception. For most schools, CS has more math requirements than SWE and is more theoretical while SWE is more practical.

Why pick SENG over CS:
1) In Canada the word "engineer" is reserved and some industries require projects to be signed by engineers.
2) Engineers make significantly more money (on average 10-15k/year more than CS).
3) Better hire rate after degree completion.
4) You have a lot more general knowledge of business and project management.
5) Safer job prosperity, with AI code-generating tools, knowing how to design is valuable.

Why pick CS over SENG:
1) It's an easier degree.
2) You take programming courses earlier in your degree which helps with co-op internships.
3) You can boost your gpa by picking easier electives.
4) Degree can be done in 3 years vs 4-5 years for SENG.
5) CS degree is cheaper than SENG.

In general, in terms of courses, SENG and CS have an identical foundation. Most SENG students have as many CS-electives than CS students. The difference is that CS doesn't require you to do electrical and computer engineering courses as well as other design courses.

For me, I am studying SENG and I also don't recommend it. It's way too much effort and it isn't rewarding. I'm in too deep now anyways. 1.5 more years and I am done!

It's very interesting to me to see how the courses vary so much across colleges. The university I'm looking into (Western Governor's University) has a TON of overlap between both their software engineering and computer science majors, to the point where it's gotten pretty difficult for me to choose (can you guess why I clicked on this video?).

Looks like computer science gives you a lot more of jobs opportunities and you can kinda choose with what you want to work with and that's what I was looking for

but I'm fucking bad at math, there is any chance I could survive at the first year of computer science?

Of course, by using common sense, studying software engineering will be better for becoming a software engineer as opposed to studying computer science.

Majoring in CS could also give you a better skill set for a career in a potentially culturally/ socially revolutionary industry, like artificial intelligence, which could enable you to begin working on projects for making machines with intelligence beyond human capabilities.

In Denmark where I live, computer science is a very deadlocked degree, where you're only able to choose 1 course yourself. Everything else is predefined. Whereas with the engineering degree, which takes 3,5 years here, I can choose almost 5 times as many courses, and I have a lot more flexibility in my degree. So I think I will choose software engineering.

CS is better because you are supposed to do math and logic. If they don't teach you the major foundations of computer science, then you've been scammed into a glorified software engineering degree. Math is important, don't be lazy.

I will say that as a premed who studied chemical engineering instead of a traditional premed major, I am so glad that I took an engineering discipline instead of something else, for me how to think like an engineer has been the best part of my training so far. It has helped me solve many more problems than just recalling the basic sciences information or critical thinking skills I have learned in other non-engineering classes. I recommend that if there is an engineering discipline that greatly overlaps with what one is interested in, do the engineering discipline. Engineering is definitely so much more work than most other majors, but, when you compare all the learning and training you’re exposed to and can achieve in four years compared to working in your life for decades, it is so worth it. It is a great investment to take an engineering major instead of something else.

This is an eye opener im 24 with no college history i dont know much about computers but i want to persue a computer science degree. Many other videos say that computer science is too broad and youll have to double up on your major to land a job , or software engineerring is the better option but you were the first want to say computer science is better also I like how you stated that there’s more flexibility in computer science great video thank you

I kinda disagree since in my Technology and Engineering major, it was required to take a lot of CS programming courses, a lot of math, physics courses more than a CS major requires for sure. So I took a lot of them and at the 4 years university it’s the same thing and even more. I believe that at the end of the day we are all going to get good jobs and based on our skills we will get a good income. One thing that I know is the job titles in this country (USA) are very important and I’m pretty sure around the world too, but my point is that if you have a Software Engineering degree, with great coding skills, you will get a lot of opportunities every where. Just focus on this journey.

I forgot to mention that my degree is Software Engineering.

The answer is nether. Self teach yourself to be a programmer. And get a business degree. The corporate company's want people to babysit the code monkeys. So learn enough code to speak nerd. And then start working on your pimp hand.
