Like another commenter said. All these martial arts when trained and shown off looks like "oh yeah that could work technically". Yet when a real fight happens and no rules. It all goes out the window and only a few things are truly effective. All these fancy 'cool' looking martial arts mostly just work in training and sparring with a willing opponent.

Sure I am not saying against someone that doesn't know how to fight you can't do this and that and score hits. But there is a reason why MMA over the years now have boiled down most of it to the real effective styles and combinations needed. Grapple, takedowns and ground work and then basically boxing and kicking.

UFC was a great teaching moment over the years IMO. Remember watching those early fights with basically no rules and anything goes. All the different fight styles and all kinds of people fighting and it then just morphed into seeing which worked and didn't and combinations needed. You could have awesome boxers and they could win, but as soon as they lost a takedown it was all over. Same in reverse with a BJJ practitioner, on the ground they dominate. But when some kickboxers learned to defend against takedowns you could see some get knocked out. Then all three morphed into today "training MMA" basically.

I am just putting up my opinion out there from observation. Not pretending to be some "I know" BS.

Thank you for explaining that size and strength matters in a fight. There's an epidemic of scrawny martial arts nerds who thinks that muscles don't help, it's all technique and that a big strong, athletic untrained guy will lose to a small or female BJJ nerd in a fight. Reality doesn't work like that and yes, that's why they have weight classes.

Wing Chun offers a wide range of training methods, some of which resemble fighting but are not, like the infamous Chi Sao. Chi Sao, which is often misunderstood, is not just about sensitivity, but also about developing structure, strength and striking power. The varied training can be beneficial as it provides a wealth of experience, but it also allows practitioners to avoid sparring without appearing to lack it. The Wing Chun lineages, like the karate styles, differ in their interpretation of techniques and principles. When sparring is properly executed in Wing Chun, it greatly enhances the martial art's ability to develop competent fighting skills. However, the complexity of performing effective sparring is a general issue in the striking arts, where the balance between skill development and safety, particularly with regard to brain damage from aggressive tactics, is critical. For Wing Chun, this means that it should not degenerate into bad kickboxing. the techniques must be executed in a controlled manner even under stress. In our school we do not use protective gear (except maybe toothguard). However, this requires that appropriate skills are built up first and the knowledge must be available how to accomplish that.

I like how real you keep it. I'm a veteran and have seen combat. We train and train and train for pretty much any situation you can imagine but when the actual combat happens most of that training goes out the window for most people because it never starts the way you expect it. You can train as much as you like but nothing teaches like actual experience.

Not only that that style Wing Chun is engaged or center gate or centerline going through the gate if you get into Vietnamese Wing Chun ip Man had two shifu's one from China and one from Vietnam the Vietnamese juke Wing Chun is very very good at covering the outside of the gate we're using a 3D center so each so there's no there's more than one center line there's a center from those to crotch one down there is the side center there is there is the 3 d line or the three pillars two sides one front and one back making a 3D center line so you're working around your opponent that's what you called you you're coming off the center line and using another center line and connecting the dots yin and yang at its best using your opponents weight and and skill against them so then their advantage is now their disadvantage and their advantage is now your advantage and their own disadvantage makes a little more sense it sounds like the Japanese martial arts of I forget the martial arts called the one that's all uses but basically it's the same principle it's pressurecounterclockwise using the yin and yang if you get into the yin and the Yang you have Tai chi yin and Tai chi young or and they're both different one is giving she and one is receiving chi

Bruce Lee said Wing Chun was only good for a bathroom let me tell you one thing if you mix it with with Tai chi bagua and what's a little bit of budo and prosciutto with taijutsu it's a mixed martial art that point in time but Tai chi Wing Chun and the white crane martial arts is foundational martial arts from Southern from the from the period of the southern rebellion of China so that's their fourth it is a base martial arts that you can base your foundation on Wing Chun is the basis of learning techniques of exposing martial arts at its core peak so then you learn other martial arts to expose and to use against that form so martial arts and Wing Chun was built upon exposing such styles this is why there is no blocking its learning to expose styles and exposure yourself so you can expose learning from them so it will be checkmate it's not a stalemate or chicken game it is game this is why when I fight I learn my opponent very well and I take care of it I may have a few scars on my forehead and a black eye but let me tell you Wing Chun is very effective when you add other white crane stylesand we're not talking about the fulcrum style of bagua we're talking about the spring formation of bagua the original bagua not the new of the Quan dynasty or the showy martial art of bagua we're talking about the original Islamic toast martial arts of China

I believe that the main issue that differentiates Wing Chun schools is that while some are concerned with making money and feeding the ego of their masters, others are concerned with effectiveness in real combat. Research Si-fu Cemil Uylukçu, or Emin Boztepe, and you will see how authentic Wing Chun is practiced.

I actually don’t think they tried to make boxing look like brute force in Ip man 3. Mike Tyson has the upper hand during the entire fight and the only time he seems slightly phased is when Donnie yen starts blocking with his elbows which would hurt a person’s fingers. However, mike Tyson IMMEDIATELY adapts and starts throwing punches under his guard striking at his joints and arms rather than the elbows themselves. On top of that he tends to reserve his strength until he knows a punch would connect and then immediately goes for vital areas designed to incapacitate. Would boxing irl destroy wing chun? Absolutely, the liver shot ip man took should’ve had him on the ground. But I think I can suspend my disbelief enough to buy that ip man could survive 3 minutes while clearly still the more injured of the two.

99 percent of that movie about Ip Man's life was not factual. His wife and kid were stuck in China when he lived in Hong Kong. His son didn't move to Hong Kong until after his mom died. Ip Man lived with a mistress in Hong Kong and had a kid with her. He also had a bad opium habit. There also aren't any records of those epic battles between Ip Man and those other kung fu masters. He never faced a western boxer either. That story was from a real life karate master named Motobu Choki that beat a German boxer half his age. People watch the Ip Man movie and actually believe things about him that weren't true.

The use of wing chun in a real life situation with no rules...will kill or severely incapacitate the attacker. Police tactics, Special force, Task forces, utilize wing chun and krav maga for real world use of force to subdue or over power and attacker in a close combat situation. Nothing floushishy, or to impress an attacker, just using what works to de-escalate a dangerous situation.

1st video I saw of your Ranton, and VERY WELL MADE. Great points. I have personally found Wing Chun/Tsun a most effective street style, however.... I came from a prior background of many styles. Some I found lacking. Many wing chun instructors come from prior styles and found they got demolished by a good wing chun person. So they learnt wing chun then taught such. However, as you state, without a background in other styles and real conditioning and pressure testing, it is next to useless in the wrong hands. I forget the famous MMA guy that is a superb BJJ grappler but he uses Wing Chun Chi Sao in his grappling and makes it flow so well. So it is really just principles, that need adaptation to be useful. Top video Ranton and Merry Christmas or Seasons Greetings to you from UK. There is so much BULLSHITO out there though lol. Many styles are just conning themselves and yet, all contain some useful element. Absorb what is useful from them and as you say PRACTICE and DRILL SUCH, to make it actually effective. Or it is all for nothing but the pleasure of the learning experience. I think you made very valid points, not just on wing chun here but ANY STYLE! As they all have limitations to blend with other style advantages at any moment.

I’ve had the OVERWHELMING pleasure of training with a teacher of (real) Taijiquan, and I’ll say straightaway, there IS a reason for practicing solo forms. This person was an amazing martial artist and was not a show off. The only time they’d put you in your place is if you challenged their ability. They weren’t afraid to get hit. A truly rare experience for me that I’ll never forget!

Too many people think that what they see in a solo form is how you’ll look when in combat. Wrong. When we practiced push hands, this teacher’s movement looked nothing like the form. They felt like they were fast but it was due to the fact they ONLY attacked what was closest to them. They also felt different during grappling situations. The best way I can describe it is like bending a tree branch that won’t break yet you can feel that it’s about to slip and hit you back. You’d either get tossed out, or struck in a manner that wasn’t damaging. And they could strike like a MF’er, and from zero distance.

That being said, they trained form AND partnered practice. You will definitely build root, strength, and power from solo form alone BUT you must practice with others to learn how to see intent. I fear many martial arts have had their partnered practice omitted due to teachers of old not wanting to share the art even though it appears they are. And now the world is left with watered down systems. All real systems will have a form (maintains good body structure), partnered practices (tests structure and teaches appropriate responses), and weapon training (helps practice delivering power).

Wing chun is good for exercise but not as a martial art, bruce lee prove it, that why he create the jeet kune do,he also said a kung-fu master who train his art for a decde can easily defeat by a boxer who just train for a few months and we know its true, well lets go to the movie, ip-man movie by donie yeng was just a propaganda and want to re write the Chinese history from failure to glory, in if-man movie Chinese soldiers fight to the death against japan invasion well if that its true why there are small amount of casualties and japan succeed their invasion in short time, that because theres no resistance at all , the whole world know that japan captured china with out a fight 😂😂😂
If wing chun is that really good, then why we don't see it in mma or ufc, aside sports if wing chun its that good then its no long a martial art but a sorcery couse it's defy physics 😂😂😂
This movie is just a propaganda to make ip-man as a hero and donnie yeng is a propaganda artist

AS Rocky Marciano said, conditioning is key. Wing chun does work speaking from experience in street fighting. Wing chun is not a fighting system such as the ones in ring sports. Wing chun is a tool, not a fighting system, and this no one has yet realized. What he says in the video is true. So now please do not go out and challenge MMA fighters with a Tan Sau. Make wing chun people look like idiots. Anyhow probably 10% of practitioners of any martial art can actually perform in the streets. I have seen vicious wing chun fighters in my time. Just train like a bastard and you will see results.
