She is exceptionally talented and her future is bright, but what truly touched me in this video was when she opened up to Ms. Patti Labelle, to express something that children are suffering through each day, and that's bullying.

As someone who was physically and mentally bullied, I want you all to understand that children will hold in that daily torment, either because they are ashamed, hurting or worse, believe what the bullies are telling them.

We all are aware of physical and mental bullying, but there is another form of bullying that often goes unseen and that's "exclusion."

Remember the old adage, "The most honest people on earth are a drunk and children."?

Well, I have never been sexually assaulted, so I cannot speak on that, but children can be the meanest and nastiest people on the earth and unfortunately it happens directly under the nose of teachers, who sadly chalk it down as kids being kids.

Kids can be cruel, saying, "I don't want to play with you, because you're ugly, poor, dark skin, you got on hand-me-down clothes, your shoes are wack, or you're dumb."

When I was in school(particularly middle school) I went through hell, I had a bad Jheri curl that my mom couldn't afford to keep updated, so that was when I suffered a ton on bullying.

I remember to this day, when I had a young teacher, right out of college, who literally watched kids stand up, walk over to my desk, point, laugh or even yank my hair and she did NOTHING, even when I was in tears.

Then, she had the audacity to pull ME to the side and ask, "Why don't you just get it cut off?" with a smirk on her face!

I held in that hurt from bullying and never told my parents and if it wasn't for my cousins, who attended the same middle school, standing up for me and me eventually standing up for myself, who knows what would have happened.

I want to be clear, i never considered suicide, but I have heard and read of many who have and many who have followed through with it, just to get rid of that pain!

I said, all this to simply ask you, a mother or father to TALK to your child or children, especially those who are very distant, quiet, and shy away from school activities or like this little girl, who has no friends.

Not as a parent, but a friend and ask them, "Are you okay?" "How's everything in school?"

Then, just come out and ask, "Are you being bullied in school?"

Again, as someone, who was heavily bullied, their first response is going to be that quick, uncomfortable, "No!"

But, trust me, it's not true.

That's why I stated, you must talk to them as a friend and peel away layers to make them feel like it's okay to admit it and it's okay to cry and get to the truth.

I don't blame my single mother, nor my father, as they were busy keeping a roof over our heads, clothes on our backs and food in our stomachs.

Plus, as a parent you can see, and tell, to a certain extent and you know when your child has little to no friends knocking on the door, so please reach out.

Children will hold in more than you know and that's why it's important to simply turn off the TV, put down the phone, turn off the radio in the car and simply TALK!

My God, this little angel, Sky, has all this popularity, fame, and was able to meet her idol, but none of that mattered, because she is HURTING, because of an unknown or little known form of bullying called "EXCLUSION!"

You must understand how bad that feels for a child to be LEFT OUT!

Told, "We don't want to play with you!

Little Sky, literally told Ms. Patti Labelle that kids she believed were friends, weren't when her video went viral, they created another group and LEFT HER OUT! SHE HAS NO FRIENDS! NOT ONE!

Again, she is a viral sensation, was on TV with Steve Harvey and Ms. Patti Labelle, but still yearned to be liked, have friends, feel as if she is a part of something.

That had me in tears.

I love the way Ms. Patti Labelle handled it, too. She didn't just gloss over it, or shout, "Girl, toughen up!" She asked her, "How do YOU handle that?" Then, when Little Sky, a ten-year-old little girl, not a grown woman, replied, "I...I just keep going." that hit home!

The worst effect of bullying, is for the bullied to start to believe what the bullies are telling them!

"Maybe I AM ugly!"

"Maybe I AM poor!"

"Maybe I AM fat or skinny!"

"Maybe I AM dumb!"

"Maybe my hair is knotty!"

p.s. The other side of the spectrum is the parents of bullies. YOU also must pay attention, because a lot of times, bullies are bullying to shield some internal pain THEY are suffering from and are bullying and feel that they would rather bully, than be bullied.


If you have read this far, I thank you and I plead with yo to talk to your child or children(individually) and do what you can to peel back the layers and let them know it's okay for them to come to for anything.

Trust me, that does go a long way!
