started a barb for ladder season 2. just chilling and taking my time, you right. it's fun. I use to pick the fastest farmer and just try to be as efficient as possible finding GGs but that's just boring now. no stress, just slowly progressing

How do feel about main-handing Death and off-handing Passion or Honor in beserker axes? I got lucky with runes lately, but don't want to waste a respec

Amazing guide but 2ould it be possible to do whirlwind build from the start of course you would have to wait a while for levels but I think it would be nice

I decide to try again with barbarian - now I wonder one thin - how the hell you are supposed to get Io and Nef, for Black when you begin nightmare - because this runes started to pop up for me in Hell with my Paladin. Same for Lem and Lum for armors. My barbarian was so bad with two steels that I wasnt able to kill even the first unique zombie at act 1 on players 8. When I supplied them with items gathered by other characters it is another story.

This was a great guide and had a few tips that I didn't even know from back in the day, like antidote and thawing potions giving you resist.

One of the pain points for me right now (in normal) on my (soon to be) frenzy barb is the lack of life leech. A pain made worse by the fact that I am using the Malice runeword (which drains life) and that this is the first my character in D2R. I have a 3x-Tal flail in my other hand...I suspect that dropping one of those Tal runes for a skull would lessen the pain a bit. I have not been fortunate enough to find an Amn rune or a life leech armor piece yet.

I would also like to mention the Honor runeword as well (which I didn't see mentioned, but maybe it was). Amn-El-Ith-Tir-Sol are not rare runes and can be easily farmed. You can drop this in w/e 5 socket melee weapon(s) you want (probably want to use an exceptional base) and you will have something pretty potent for level 27. If you're on a budget, or if this is your first character, probably something to look into.

If I switch to whirlwind around the beginning of nightmare, would the two one-handed blacks work well, or should i go with a two-hand black?

Made an Oath and Voice of reason, and Hell went from impossible to fairly easy... I totally recommend the Oath, and the Voice of Reason is great as it's my only source of 'cannot be frozen'.. plus the Ice orbs are super fun and proc all the time

Just purchased D2R. I'm pretty excited. I remember playing D2 alot back in high-school but I honestly had no real clue what I was doing. I loved my Assassin with Phoenix strike lol. Gonna give Barb a go now, great guide.

I wonder why you choose mace mastery instead of sword mastery, perhaps mace weapons have more chance to get the crushing blow? I also heard that BB is a hard class to play with, since I just started a BB class, would you recommend frenzy or whirlwind BB?

Why not max out double swing, for the synergy with frenzy?

Considering all the ridiculous "guides" out there that suggest getting grief and enigma, this one was excellent.
A couple things I'll add/suggest:
Peace is an incredible runeword early on because of the +2 crit. That's 25% critical strike which alone makes it better than myth. Add in that it can benefit from any plus to all skills and you have a serious damage boost.
Whirlwind should not be looked at as only a 2h skill and I would argue it's actually better to dual wield ww for a majority of the game because it's easier to reach lower break points with 1 handers. WW is all about speed of attacks rather than raw damage. I can go into more detail on that if anyone reading is interested.

What level should I be to beat diablo in act 4 i am currently level 32 on barbarian with malice sword and set sword in other hand?

Thanks for your hard work and your well put together guilds. I just used this to beat hell mode with a WW barb. I also followed your Sorc, Necro, Pally, Wind Druid (my fav so far) and Amazon guilds and they all beat hell mode are are 85+. The only one left is the Assassin, gong to take a break on lvl so I can MF since my Sorc, Druid and Pally are all set up for different areas of the game to MF farming. Its been 20 years since I played and when I started D2R there was so much I forgot about. Thanks to the info in your guilds I was able to get back up to speed with things. Once again thanks for all your hard work.

Other good and sensible "Cannot be frozen" sources you can farm up to nightmare:
- Death's Guard Sash (green set item, belt, good set combo with Death's Gloves, bad side only 2 belt rows)
- Hawkmail Scale Mail (Unique Item, Upgrade to Tigulated Mail with 1 Tal Rune + 1 Shael Rune + 1 Perfect Diamond in cube, it's okay if you can't get anything else)
- The Spirit Shroud Ghost Armor (exceptional unique of of the "Quilted Armor" line, very nice armor)
- Duriel's Shell Cuirass (exceptional unique of the "Breast Plate" line, awesome armor, could be endgame easily)
- Sureshrill Frost Flanged Mace (exceptional unique of the "Mace" line, it's something, upgrade with Lum + Pul + Perfect Emerald to elite status, gets pretty good damage, actually)
- Darksight Helm Basinet (exceptional unique of the "Full Helm" line, not bad)

Thanks for your work on D2 guides, they help me greatly with my return to D2 after all those years! :) As far as Frenzy Barb is concerned, do you recommend maxing out Double Swing when reaching higher level? It's not 100% clear for me, and most Frenzy guides tend to suggest 20 into Double Swing & 20 into Frenzy :)

Hey really informative guide but I had a question about using the socket quest on a partizan found in act 5. I farmed pindle because he has a half decent drop chance for the partizan however the socket quest gave me 5 sockets instead of 4. I'm sure I messed up and I assume it has to do with pindles level or something of that sort but was hoping you could explain why that happened so myself and others don't make the same mistake. Any advice for someone hardcapped with swords until they beat the game?

I'm bout to throw my entire console into traffic.

Finding gear that is actually for a barbarian is impossible.

Note: I refuse to re-roll or create new characters to farm.

I want to beat this front to back on my own, but the gear farm boss in this title might be the most difficult grind to this day.

Absolutely unreal to me that they didn't make some much needed changes.

You're talking about a tiny player base that would have been upset about some REAL quality of life changes, who have basically been playing this game through thick and thin anyway, so I'm not sure why they are catering to them.

I'm sorry but being forced to gold farm because your follower is basically a light healing potion for 3 seconds before being absolute nuked into oblivion by REGULAR MOBS is not good game design.

Getting one shot by inconsequential mobs because not even one piece of loot that is actually mediocre at best will drop for you.

Having good resist doesn't matter either, because my damage output is stuck at aggressively hitting my enemy with a limp stick for over an hour.

Seems like they got lazy with their math and never bothered to fix it towards the end of their game, and the answer was to just let the few people patient enough to continue playing give out overpowered gear that you will never see ever without their help.

Fuck Diablo. If this is how the new title handles math like literally AT ALL, then I'll hard pass.

I'm not asking for loot to just be showered onto me, but I genuinely have 0 pieces of loot that are "Hell Ready", am level 77, and am getting ran through like a joke solely off bad, underleveled gear.

And don't even get me started with the shitty affix rolls.

There's no reason to have a virtually unkillable mob in a solo game. Period. A day of work tops could have fixed that shit. Like the Elite Rare Spawn Other placed right on top of a sarcophagus in a fucking corner I ran into, who is healing all damage I'm doing to literally every mob plus 1 more spawn every few seconds that literally eventually crashed my game.

Fuck Blizzard.
