Top 15 Best PC Turn Based Strategy Games That You Should Play | 2022 Edition (Part 2)

Nothing seems to touch xcom2. 😕

If you make a list of the best turn-based strategy games and don't include Heroes of Might Magic 3 in this list, then I can't take this list seriously. The game by far is one the best games for PC ever written and still enjoyable almost 25 years later, and you don't even mention a classical game that most of these games are built upon.

Hey good job on both videos! Totally agree with places of my all-time favourite games like Divinity Original Sin, Wasteland 3, Age of Wonders Planetfall and XCOM! You're really nailed it up. Was strange to miss Heroes of Might and Magic (along with King's Bounty) game series, as those were first TBS ever made. Regarding Pathfinder it was the worst experience I've ever had in video games. In all good previous games even if you're not familiar with them, you can play on harder difficulties and enjoy the game and challenge a lot! But Pathfinder... Let's say it straight, game on hard difficulties be like "1)cast fireball and roll dice 2) it isn't 20?> 3) reload the save". And it's just plain stupid. I want to play tactical game, I don't f****g want play luck and loading simulator, seriously, the part of game which take 15 minutes on casual will take over 6 damn hours on harder difficulties, because of loadings and constant resting. It's just probably the worst TBS I've ever played. I kinda can just go roll through whole game on casual without ever dying, but what's the point? Game doesn't reward you anything, it's just constant buffing, resting reloading between each battle, that's so tedious! And there like really no "tactical" part in that game at all. In Age of Wonders by doing smart moves you can win unfair battles, but in pathfinder regular creep can just 1x6 wipe your whole party.

Gears Tactics is awesome

Xcom is one of the best for sure and it's 10 years old but still looks ok and is very fun.

Nice list. Oh well i really want Jagged Alliance 3 to be good but i doubt it. JA 2 is so unique. The battles, the dynamic map enemy movement, the rpg elements, the loot...

The Last Spell & Songs of Conquest

What makes the banner saga not one of the top strategy games in my mind is the length to complete them. Each one was maybe 12 to 15 hours long. All 4 banner sagas might just be at 40 hours to beat which is too short being that it’s 3 games. I had to pay a game price for each banner saga so I would say it’s really not worth it unless you can get all 3 games for one low price.

Gloomhaven may be awesome but sucks on the tutorial, I had to return the purchase

These games are mostly awesome, i dont get why so many downvotes.

Some games which I feel could have made it even in the first part of this list:
1. Darkest Dungeon
2. Slay the Spire
3. Star Traders: Frontiers (sort of Elite with turn based ship combat mixed with Darkest Dungeon style ground combat, very deep)

and for the second list:
1. Songs of Conquest (if you liked HOMM 3 you will like this)
2. Othercide (another well made game with the XCOM formula)
3. Endless Legend
4. Into the Breach

Surprised that Jupiter Hell didn't make the list. One of the best turn-based tactical RPGs I've ever played, features a kickass heavy metal soundtrack. Worth a look. Other honorable mentions are Shattered Pixel Dungeon and Shattered Planet (unrelated despite the names) as well as Loop Hero, which is a weirdly good take on the intersection of idle-RPGs and turn-based strategic RPGs.

Divinity:Original Sin 1 and 2 for sure. Awesome games.

i kinda stop touching Phoenix Point after i done with the ending (back when there only Blood and Titanium DLC) so did they fixed some annoying problem with the game yet?
like the way your base defend force you to spread your troop so thin through out your base and make it wasted your time gather them together to proper defend the choke point or how the vehicle has no upgrade so they basically a waste of space.
Anu also the only one with resource building so if you want other resource, you have to keep raiding other factions but since the game has no quick resolve, it became rather tedious after awhile too which also the reason why i kinda stop after finish the game the first time.

This and part 1 were great videos, I learned about a lot of games I wouldn't have otherwise checked out! Thanks for these compilations, you're doing good work out here.

I'd toss on the list: "Ash of Gods: Redemption", "Dark Deity", "Vestaria Saga 1: War of the Scions", & "Wargroove". All highly enjoyable for the turn-based strategy gamer.

I'm not frustrated or anything, I just find it bizzare to put Jagged Alliance 2 that low, especially if the same list has XCOM 2, and somehow XCOM 2 higher. I bet the graphic has a lot of things to do with it, because if we were to dive into them JA2 alone surpasses every XCOM game, combined and even modded.
If JA2 modded then it's GG for the whole TBT genre.

JA2 still valid :O ... we just havent evolve enough to surrpass that masterpiece.
Other than that .... Songs of Conquest and Old World ... Iron Oath and plenty more ..

I can understand some old dogs are not present like HOMM or the original UFO/XCOM, so just some additions:
- Xenonauts: For those who wouldn't adapt to modern XCOM, Xenonauts is an excellent sequel to the original saga, but in a modern engine.
- Darkest Dungeon: No clue why this is not in the list, absolute masterpiece
- Endless Space 2: Fort those sci-fi lovers
- Worms... well, why not? :D

Thea: The awakening. Very good turn-based survival / crafting indie game where you play a bunch of villagers trying to restore the lost power of the gods. One of my all times favorites.

So civiliazation here. but they steal many content from Endless Space 2 and Endless legend Turn based games.And this games a realy good.

Fallout 1, Fallout 2, Atom, Atom rpg trudograd, Fallout Tactics, Wasteland 2 and Wasteland 3 are the best!

I'm still pissed at Epic/Phoenix Point for poaching a CROWDFUNDED game for exclusivity... but I also played a bit of it when I had 3 months of Games Pass that came free with my new laptop. It's trash. It's boring. The story SUCKS, the characters are nearly non-existent, and the gameplay has ONE gimmick but still isn't as good as XCOM. not only should it not be so high on this list, imo it shouldn't be on the list at all.

There’s also Battle for Wesnoth, which I know isn’t new but still a reallly good classic with several different campaigns and difficulties. Lovely art work and soundtrack. Story can be immersive depending on the ones that you choose.

try ATOM (Trudograd)

Check out Phantom Brigade, it's still in early access but it's a really unique simultaneous action turn based tactics game with mechs!

Your lists are good, but I believe you really should have mentioned "Troubleshooter - Abandoned Children". Many people discard it as "Anime XCOM" but its combat system is far superior to XCOM and it has an excellent story with a lovable cast of characters.

ToEE, Phantom Doctrine, Fallout Tactics, Gorky 17, Into the Breach, COPS 2170 (Власть Закона).

Why do you include early-access games?

not sure if battletech got a mention same as xcom play the OG then install the mod Rogutech Treadnought, its longwar for Battletech but you must have a decent computer to run it otherwise its slow
