Hello Mad Hat… I am a Mechanical Engineer and thinking to shift to Cybersecurity. And after doing my initial studies. I am planning to take two certifications courses before applying for a job as a SOC Analyst. First I want to take Google Certification and then doing BTL1 certification.

Kindly please provide me your review and inputs if I am going in the right direction

I got my Sec+ this year and got a role as an application security analyst and I’ve been doing the Google cybersecurity course as a refresher & I really like how they have you do projects. I will say I think Microsoft’s security course has an edge because it gives you experience with their products which is a great way to market yourself I think

Just found your page, really good information. I think it would be a good idea to link a video in the description or a pinned comment if you mention them in your current video.

I took the IBM Cybersecurity Analyst Certificate during my internship and while it did cover a good amount of concepts, I didn't really understand how to apply those concepts until I dived deeper by doing practical projects such as scanning and enumeration of ports as part of a penetration testing exercise.

hi, im curious to know are you required to know and use any programming languages in your job currently? Or if you know how to code, did it help you anyway in cyber security? thanks!

I took the Microsoft course and currently taking the google course, Microsoft is basically teaching you about MICROSOFT products onlyy nothing else, it also teaches you more about how to be an IT guy like managing the AD of an organization. Whereas the google course teaches you about security and stuff you will actually use. Not saying you won't use microsoft products but at least it doesn't focus only on 1 set of products and make it look like the god of tools

I have all 3…they’re all basically the same but I enjoyed the Google cert much more than the others.

Hi mr hat, i've been doing the google cert for a while and im so in love with all the concepts of networking and cybersecurity, its insane i spent around 20 years on the computer and never thought id be into this till now but i have a main issue where i feel like im dumb as shit and trying to digest all this information its making me actually just forget stuff instead do you have any advice for structuring my shit cause i feel like even if i do follow along with the course i just find myself messing around with completely different stuff that i dont understand and waste my time on that

Do all 3 if you can...the more you know the better...but it would be best to do Google's and Microsoft's because they give you discounted vouchers for the certification that is associated with the certificates...plus if you sign up to coursera plus, both the Google and Microsoft certificates are included, where you will have to pay extra for the IBM one. Cloud Security is a good niche to drill down to in cyber...especially since a lot of corporations use Microsoft products and can lead you to a very lucrative cyber security career later on.
As a matter of fact I think all the Google and Microsoft certificates are included in coursera plus...So you could take the Google Cyber with the Google Cloud Security Engineer or the Microsoft Cyber with the Microsoft Azure Security Engineer (these two actually come with 50% off vouchers and are a good follow up to one another). In the end the important thing is to pick one and go with it. :)

Done the google course, it's very good and I'm working on the sec+ rn.

Yo it will be good to do the soc analyst cert of hackthebox instead of btl1?
