This movie was too gloomy and dreary for my taste. I liked Sword of the Valiant (1984) more. Even though the acting, costumes, and effects are not as good it is still more enjoyable.

I sort of really liked the film. It's a piece of art. The cinematography, actors, sound effects, music, visual language - world class. The storyboard was not. Yes, the conflict is interesting. BUT (spoiler). These sort of christian people would immediately have the knight identified as demonic trickster. They would have chased him and trying to kill him; nothing binds you to a demon as christ (which is one of the worst ideoligies ever invented, but in this case, it would have saved the protagonist). Also, why these hocus pocus women? Who decided to shorten this storyline out of the film? Just doesn't make any sense. And why is the complete atmosphere depressive without any reason because obviously they life in quite good or very good, secure circumstances, better than the majority of people in the history of mankind? Makes no sense. The fox, the woman without head ... great ideas, but they don't com together to a consistent, satisfactioning story. It's as if 30-50% of the film was cutted out, and everything falls apart.
This film could have been a great masterpiece with a better storyboard and less depressive people making it. Sadly, they failed.

In the olden days the sight of a blacks would of been considered a bad omen. The Roman emperor Septimius Severus saw one once and ordered for it to be removed from his sight.

I gotta admit. One of my least favorite a24 movies. Don't get me wrong, it was good. I'm not saying it was bad. But it just felt like a big build up for nothing.

Weird movie..... you'll either love it or hate it.ive still not made my mind up. But if you've taken up a quest and are on your hero's journey it's definitely worth viewing.

Pretentious tripe of a movie. Poorly paced (could cut 40 minutes easily), shot mostly in the dark, with sub-par storytelling matched with average cgi, and terrible costumes (Gawain wears a sweater for half the movie).

Another classic English myth tortured beyond recognition for “for modern audiences”. I could only bare to finish it because I was able to skip chunks of the film.
