I don't understand why Nissan isn't selling the Leaf with CCS or offering a conversion kit for current owners. Even if still meant DC charging at 50kw and the rapidgate still occuring I would pay even 1000€. As for MG, they should offer the LFP battery at every trim, not just the base model.

MG4 SE can be charged happily up to 100% every day due to LFP battery. So that USABLE 50.8 kWh of battery in the MG4 can be fully exploited, whereas you will want to only charge up to 80% of the Leaf's 39kWh NCM battery on a daily basis = big difference in real-world range. Surprised that wasn't mentioned.. as it's a biggee. Assuming 3.5 miles per kWh you will get 109 miles of range in the Leaf on a regular basis. In the MG4 SE, you will get 177 miles. Long journeys are possible on the MG4, but not as easy in the Leaf, particularly when you consider the parcity of Chademo chargers on some routes.

You should have mentioned, the Leaf is manufactured in the UK. Whereas the MG is manufactured in China, and nothing related to MG at all. They just bought the brand name after it got bankruptcy.

I have just purchased a 6mths old Nissan Leaf N Connecta. More spec than the Acenta. Lovely car and got it for less than £20K with 2000 miles on the clock. Delighted with it, lovely to drive. PLUS THE LEAF IS BUILT IN THE 🇬🇧.

Biggest problem with Chinese cars like MG is availability keeping prices too high. Biggest advantage of Nissan cars like the Leaf is they are made in the UK, so lots available at good prices. Biggest disadvantage of Leaf is the lack of battery thermal management.

WISH the Pomms would wake up to themselves and use kilometres. Hard to convert in your head, and stupid to drive in a country where the signs are in yards and miles. Here the metres add up easily to kilometres. As an Australian it is easier to drive in France as long as you stay on the wrong side of the road. Ireland, no problem.

I have a used Mk2 LEAF (the Mk1 with a 30kwhr battery). I love it to bits and it does everything I wanted it to do. Trips up to 100 miles and charging at home from my Solar panels.
However, Chademo charging port makes it a non-starter as a long range choice.
Chedemo is very hard to find and usually there is only 1 port in any row of 10 CCS chargers.
Summary. If you charge at home and only use it for local trips, or a commuter vehicle, it's a superb used buy (they are so cheap used). Otherwise, look elsewhere, the LEAF has had its day.

I think the MG's biggest advantage is the London design studio. The nice lines and clean design goes a long way, meanwhile the Leaf looks utilitarian and basic.

Don’t know why you compare these two. They are not even closed. Leaf’s battery is air cooled while mg4 has a liquid cooling bms. So leaf’s battery degrades much faster than mg4. I can reject buying leaf based on that fact alone.

We've had our mg4 for 3 weeks now and LOVE it!
The daily commute is about 7 miles each way, in Greater London traffic (half an hour + ) and even with the so-called 'granny' 3pin 13amp domestic socket charger, we only need to plug in once a week over night. We have an 8kW wall charger too but barely use it. Happy bunnies

But why is the MG so much cheaper? Because the Chinese are trying to infiltrate the EU market, and all the Western manufacturers have been dragging their feet on EVs (aside from Tesla).

My 3 year PCP on this Leaf is coming to a end. The car is great and I've been really happy with it but I'll be going for the MG4 next, I really like the look of the MG4.
The battery on the Leaf needs a upgrade, they need to ditch Chademo connector.

I am little bit confused :-) In Germany the MG4 Standard 51kwh start from 30 000Euros(brutto) but much comfortable Peugeot 2008-e or Citroen C4-e starts from 29 000 Euros, ... and what more spacious VW ID3? It starts from 32 000Euros and you get much better quality of LCD, seats, infotainment, service network etc... Does the UK another pricing?

I'd just like to mention that rear wheel drive cars are terrible at road handling in snow and bad weather. I didn't realise until I saw this review. So the Leaf is better for road handling because it's front wheel drive. I've just recently bought a second hand Leaf N-Connecta 2019 model for almost half the cost of these brand new models. The MG4 is a late entry into the EV market so will be a while before you can pick one up for the same price I payed for the Leaf.

My local tow-bar installer told me yesterday that there still isn't a tow-bar available for the MG4 (March 2023) so that rules this car out for me. I frequently use a tow-bar for taking garden rubbish to the dump in a trailer and for transporting my bikes on a bike rack. Or, maybe you know different, If so, let me know who fits them.

Spending 27k on a car made in China would be my concern. The state of geopolitics between the west and China could lead to an embargo on certain products. That’s my personal opinion. It’s for others to weigh up and research this issue before making their choice.

Short version to me the most important thin is that both car's take only 1-phase type-2 charging so the 62kWh Nissan Leaf takes almost 19h to fully charge. Mean while VW ID.3 would only take around 7h to fully charge. Some countries like Finland every house hold has 3-phase electrical grid while in other countries like England most households have 1-phase electrical grid. Learn which one you have and based your car on that in my opinion. Getting 3-phase charging means 1/3 charging time which is nice. Tough you will probably pay anywhere from 1k to 10k extra for that when including 11kWh home wall charger and installation
