As a biologist and native people of Flores Island, Indonesia, I think one of the main reason why Komodo still exist until this era is the female komodo can reproduce without male or called parthenogenesis.

Personally I could care less if these creatures went extinct! What is the point of them? The eco system will survive without them, alligators, grizzlies, any violent predators could be taken out in my opinion and earth would go on just fine…

What a great documentary very educational on the species. They are the apex predator & you have to be aware of your surroundings just like anywhere else . You don't want to get caught lacking. They are def ruthless & merciless once they smell blood they are on it.

If the dragon is capable of parthinogenesis then why does the species have males and females? seems to me that if a female can lay fertile eggs without a male's input, then there is no evolutionary need for the males. at least we have to ask what the purpose of the male IS, if the female can lay fertile eggs without him. there must be another evolutionary purpose for the male. that's actually a very important question that needs an answer indeed.
