Glad you guys are enjoying this and yeah amping up Magic Missile isn't a revelation of an idea but doing it in this way is certainly unique at least that I've seen, but beyond that just because you've seen something doesn't mean everyone has, a lot of people are clearly loving this and that's what's important.

ОтветитьYou have to have Gale in your party when you speak to the cat. After a long rest it moves somewhere else. Then you can trade with it.
ОтветитьHow does this compare to the spell you can cast once a day that looks like big magic missile? I know you can only cast it once per rest, but if it works the same way itll hit like a truck.

Ответитьthere is a green version of spellcrux amulet in act 1 underdark from the illithid in the myconid colony that gives you another free spell slot, that you can keep in your pack for emergencies too
ОтветитьDo the Illithid powers stack with this? There are two or three powers that I could definitely see working. Freecast is a big one, gets you an additional spell of whatever level after every short rest. Cull the weak. Assuming you have a bunch of illithid powers, it could kill an almost dead opponent and do an additional 1-4 damage to all other nearby enemies. And the last Psionic Overload. Although I'm unsure if this procs off of magic missile. If it does, that's another 1d4 damage per magic missile.

ОтветитьAlternatively you can duel wield with the Spellsparkler instead of the Phalar Aluve for lightning damage. Then use Kereska's Favor for another damage type, like fire for burning people.

ОтветитьThis is the most extreme example of an order of operations balance flaw in the game. I'm surprised I didn't think of it lol, so good on you sir. A magnificent broken build.
BG3 has a major balance flaw in that it keeps treating spells and abilities as if damage added should apply to every single shot or component of a multi-shot attack.
That's basically just a mathematical error. It's the difference between (10+1)x20 vs 10+(1x20). The first calculation yields 220. The second yields 30. The best attack in BG3 would be a shotgun attack that yeilded 20 shots that do 1 damage each, or something like that. I'm surprised I never considered magic missile. I guess I still have it in my brain that it's 3 shots. Never considered it as 8 or 9 shots.
The routine balance mistakes that games make are:
Hiding valuable objects behind walls or terrain that can be clipped through.
Order of operations errors. (this particular balance flaw is found here)
Unrestricted multipliers.
Using linear progression to balance a statistical curve (Eg: the high AC balance problem, baked into the DnD system itself).
Using additive rather than multiplicative stacking of immunities or vulnerabilities (50%+50% immunity should not be 100% immune, it should be 75%)
Failure to account for what happens when immunities/vulnerabilities exceed 100% For example, if you boost immunity to 200% and every hit gives you life. Or when vulnerability exceeds 100%, it becomes total immunity. Things like that.
Using a negative cost to gate uber abilities, where the detrimental cost can be avoided. This exploit uses this one too, as you pay -5 on an attack roll that doesn't actually matter.
And so on...
Tthe same flaws appear again and again, in game after game after game. And each time, the 1000th time over, the developers appear shocked and scramble to release a patch lol. This is why people familiar with game exploits such as the spiffing brit can spend a day in a game, and break it's balance completely. It takes 15 minutes to identify the game made a cardinal sin of balance, and then you just spend the day exploiting it.
add on throwing a bottle of water on your targets instead of casting create or destroy water. It's the same effect of making a target wet for the vulnerability to lightning damage. Saves a spell slot and a spell choice at the cost of keeping bottles of water at the ready.

Still a great idea though and its cool to see some1 trying to make wizards work as stupidly good as other classes combos in bdg3.

You can further buff this by using Illithid powers (at the cost of making the character less attractive to look at if you want to use the "evolved" powers). Consider the Psionic overload power (1d4 physic dmg per attack at the risk of taking 1d4 physic damage per turn), Cull the weak - Insta kill anything that drops below a certain health threshold and deals additional 1d4 to nearby creatures and Free-cast which allows you to cast level 6 MM for free once per short rest.
Also if you opt to partially evolve - you get the innate ability to Fly (does not give the free disengage though) so if its only movement ability and not the disengage part you can ditch storm sorcery for draconic bloodline for an innate mage armor (base 13 ac) and not cast mage armor.
That is 4 uses of level 6 spell slots from the spell slot + Arcane Battery + Spell slot restoration + Freecast.
I like the build idea. The only thing I‘d advise against is not picking Wizard as the last class to start leveling. If you go 1 Sorc -> 10 Wizard -> 1 Cleric then all spells granted from items will use WIS instead of INT to cast, which is not a huge issue for this build but still not ideal.
You could also consider using heavy armor from the Cleric subclass, especially if you’re going solo because then your high AC will have no downside. That would also give you proficiency with martial weapons (including Phalar Aluve). Not that it really matters, but still.
if you put the magic neck on that gives u a extra shot with magic missile you can hit 9 times.
ОтветитьHat of the Sharp Caster won't work. It lets you reroll spell "attack" rolls, not "damage" rolls. Only the necklace from your extra equipment would make this better.

ОтветитьBlurg is in Baldur's Gate, though I'm not sure if he is only available after you save Omeluum or whatever his name is from the Iron Throne. There's a building they hang out in. I'd check out if you can find them. Also, if you wield the act 1 staff that gives lightning charges with the act 3 that gives lightning charges you will gain so many charges so fast that it's hard to count lol
ОтветитьNice build, one thing i dont understand is that ppl use the second radiant ring while using the singing sword -> Use Light and as long as you are close enough you only need Callous Glow Ring. Not sure what to switch the other ring out for, but there is potential dmg there.
Also i found out eldirch blast is evocation thanks to you :D
So I know can build the least effective Eldirch blast build every just to get 3 times ability modifiers from charisma and intelect.. XD
We really need something above tactician mode where enemies make use of these mechanics as well, to make these builds more enjoyable and challenging.

ОтветитьIncase the affect of the gloves get patched, there are gloves which simply give you dual weilder. By using those you could free up one of your feats to gain even more Ability improvement and boost your damage.
