That kind of shoots a hole in Schrodinger's poor little cat in the Box theory does it not? 😂
Let's not get too carried away here people. If everything was that simple, Neil would have a whole shelf full of Nobel prizes right? 😆
I really like Neil a lot, he is very, very smart man. However I find him a little narrow minded at times for a scientist which "seems to be" a contradiction to some of his other beliefs. That's only my observation not a complete truth. So maybe I won't get a bunch of nasty messages. 😆
It may just be that my simulation translating his simulation incorrectly? 😁

The limit of this is the size of the real “surface universe” and their natural law limitations (ie computational limits). This limit is what determines how many universes can exist down the line before the computer in the real world can no longer process it all.

Why on earth would they simulate eras that could generate their own simulations? Wouldn’t that lead to exponential memory and power consumption

But, what if the progression of simulations is not linear? We could be at the end of one string so to speak, but there are up to an infinite number of concurrent simulation that are behind us, even with us, or ahead. It would be a 50/50 chance if we were base or first simulation, but what if we were somewhere down the line?

We r not in a simulation. I would be and you would be an NPC. So are you an NPC? If they have the technology to make you simulation for every single person, you cannot tell me they cannot create some thing while you’re going at the speed of light.

You do not need to physically store memories of imaginary planeys. You only need to have a description of the characteristics of these worlds. Then use pseudorandom number generators that define the characteristics at a given location and time.

This is a very simplistic explanation of this theory. I think the mind of a gamer can and does rationalize the many different systems found in games that could be the basis of our reality. In truth, Neil is being very dismissive, considering that this theory is being tested as we speak in Cern, with scientists far more "in the know" about this particular topic. Michio Kaku also happens to dispute Neil on this as well.

But if we are talking about optimalization and limiting speed of light etc. Shouldn’t we also consider a limit for how many simulated worlds there can be and how complex they are ? Because all the worlds need to run on the first computer and every new nested world will cut a big chunk of computing power. Also no civilization inside the simulation can build better computer than the one they’re running on because it’ll limit them.

So he believes that we are the first or the last link of the chain. The problem is that a "world" simulated or not will not create one simulation but million simulations. So the chances we are the first link are small..

The 50/50 argument only is valid if... Each simulation only makes a SINGLE simulation game. Last time I checked , there are thousands of game variants in this reality... this is not a single stair step... it is a tree sprouting a variety of beta simulations that never fully develop. Only a select few reach actualization .

We could be just the appearance of 'the next' so as to keep it a bit more interesting, more mysterious. Maybe one of the ground rules, at least of our simulation, is to make the simulation such that the SIMs can't tell they're SIMs. Also, what's 'real'? Perhaps there isn't an outside the simulation. Perhaps there isn't a 'real' to contrast simulations with. Maybe this is all there is. Scary burgers but possibly true. Or perhaps simulation theory is incorrect, and it's just being purported by those who will benefit from people thinking morality is, consequently, irrelevant. Trying to convince people that life is just a simulation could be just the excuse they give to condone their diabolical behavior. 'What does morality matter if we're not real?', they ask - then all forms of misuse, abuse and torture are made permissible.

flawed logic. even if we are simulated existence there's no reason to think it is a perfect simulation of the universe that created this simulation. how many simulations have we created that are so far removed from the way our universe works that they can barely be called a simulation at all? (answer: ALL OF THEM) It is extremely likely that our simulated existence is very little or even NOTHING like the universe in which our simulation was created in. Fun mind exercise, but in terms of trying to convince yourself we are NOT in a simulation, it is not a logical line of thought.

The size of a hard disk that can simulate earth and universe as we conceive it must be at the volume of the moon. I think it’s impossible to make such a computer. Inside of our body there is a world that cannot be simulated unless we use millions of hard discs.

What if the original simulation environment gets destroyed? Do all the subsequent realities collapse because the the original supports the genesis of them all? I guess another way to ask is... If the original computer with the 1st simulation is turned off, are all other realities nested within?

Couldn’t there be different genres like couldn’t this be a very popular type of game where worlds are built from scratch? Hence are working to get to the stage we can create simulations?

Also if we are in a VR game then we’d still have free will to explore interact with who ever we want, so we could still be ‘real’ and so might the people we interact with.

So you're going to simulate the reality of every conscious being -- animals, bacteria, throughout all of history?
Simulate every molecule and atom in the universe?
The problem with sim hypothesis is that it always inevitably ends in solipsism, the belief that only certain consciousnesses are simulated. And those consciousnesses happen to be those of myself and maybe a couple of my friends. It is an entirely narcissistic and psychological hypothesis, not a physical one.
Also, being impossible to disprove, it's not scientific either. If you believe it, you might as well believe in an Abrahamic God or some other God or gods.
