I agree with the folks that recommend against going to an LCS. I had a Fantastic Four #3 and a dealer offered me $600 for it. I easily sold it for $1500. Just one example but...

I have a story I'd like to share. A year or two before Covid, I decided to focus more on pop figures. So, I was thinking of gettkbg rid of my collection of raw DC and Marvel comics. I had 2 long boxes for each filled. I took them to 4 comic shops. One offered me 50 for each long box. I quickly declined. The best offee I got was 120 for the Marvel and 100 for the DC. I declined, and the owner offered 250 then raised his price to 300. I still declined. But, as i was driving back home, I wondered why he kept going higher. He quickly looked through my marvel, but stopped a quarter a wau through.
I went home and literally took out the first half of books to price them myself. Well, I came across my 1st major key I had no idea i even bought. Avenging Spidermsn #9 in NM unread condition. 1st App of Carol Danvers. At the time, the movie was coming out soon. So the hype was high, and that comic jumped up to around 150 raw!! He obviously saw it and that's one reason why he raised his price.
Good thing I didn't sell to him bc after pricing just the Marvel alone in current condition, I had over 2000 worth of key comics alone!
Funny thing is, I initially wanted 800 for everything. I would have probably taken 700 on the spot. Good thing I didn't bc I'd have gotten ripped off!
I did sell the ASM #9 on Ebay around the time the movie came out for 130 raw. Thst turned out to be a good deal bc i think it's dropped to like 40 now and 9.8 CGC is like 125, lol.

Point is, u must take the time to go through what you have, otherwise u will 100% get ripped off!
I'm painfully going through my DC The New 52 books now, and decided to sell them off based on series and crossover's. I'm keeping very few like Snyder's Batman, Animal Man, etc.

How come nobody ever talks about how high the taxes for selling collectibles?

Thx Regie, very informative video as always! If I were to add another option for sellers, I'd say friends n' family are not a bad way to go. The books stay 'in the family' and hopefully there's more trust there :) I do have a question. Would you advise taking a photo of every page of your raw books to avoid a buyer claiming it's not as you described (assuming it was shipped with care)?

I've sold product on eBay for years, and I don't recommend selling high dollar items on there, they make it way too easy for buyers to rip off sellers..

Exactly right. Happened to me in 2016 to 2017 when I thought I was leaving the hobby. Sold the majority of my keys which included some great books including single digits superman etc. through Heritage auction. The return was good and I honestly think paid for a lot of what I have spent the previous 20 years. However, it left me with a seriously depleted collection when I decided that I did not want to leave the hobby. So I ended up using the money that I got through the Heritage sale to restock my collection and I’ve been very selective of my purchase. I also sold most of my raw comics, which were not super keys and many of my slabbed comics which were also not major keys. I’m down to 200 with 40 raw and the rest slabbed. If I do that again, I will sell the entire collection or I will sell none of it. Thanks!

So I basically shopped, and made offers on mycomicshop and cleaned them out lol 😂 got the weapon x books, already had 181 but debating how high of a grade to go on a GSX1. Leaning towards a 9.0 ❤ thanks Reggie and do not change your wall for awhile , I become compelled when i see these walls you put up 🎉😅

Your comment about consignment , totally agree. As a buyer I’ve surely picked up several great comics at a great price from consignment sellers. But as a collector sometimes I worry that every comic is sold at a lower price than the last, might not be good for the hobby. But I do understand that this is also a down market, but need to be cautious cause they may be contributing to the trend of decline by posting it low, then the next lower, then the next one lower.

I would advise not selling to a comic shop. You’ll get far less than selling on your own. Same for dealers but some will give a fair amount. Comic shops no way.
