Is this the sonic.ese game where if you collect red rings, you get to play as sonic? I notice that tails has -1 rings. So I’m not sure if he just used a video, or if that actually means something.

something interesting to note here is that tails did have the -1 ring

This makes the Knuckles fight scene in the original exe make a lot more sense, he was sent to murder Sonic as Eggman would buy some time. If Knuckles weren’t sent he wouldn’t be on guard and would probably die.

I think what's most interesting about this is that it basically mirrors the original plot of Sonic 3 & Knuckles, where Eggman convinced Knuckles that Sonic was evil, except this time, Eggman is much closer to the truth, and doesn't seem to be trying to deceive Knuckles.

What I painfully realize in this part just now is that the frame where Knuckles stumbles back before Eggman is the following:

This whole flashback scene was Knux remembering the entire fight he once had with the blue blur, memorizing his every move and strike he could throw at him.

Knuckles stumbling back implied he lost his “shadow boxing” if you could call it that.

And that makes Eggman’s question to Knuckles far more dreadful than I thought when he asked “Can you win/kill him?”.

For me, the best part about this is after Eggman asks him, Knuckles doesn't answer showing in a way, for once Eggman is RIGHT in being the overly cuatious one. In always telling them their friends are their weakness. Knuckles is physically the strongest so of course he SHOULD be capable of beating Sonic. But the fact he lost the shadow boxing and didn’t say anything means he won't. Not can't, he won't. So in this twisted world, Eggman is right in this philosophy. Their being friends is their weakness.

Eggman even asking him this question, not facing him, shows he's taking a vastly different approach then their friendly ones. Eggman isn't facing him, like a friend would to show faith, and he isn't confident in his capabilities, being shown by his being doubtful by even asking him if he can do it. This makes it all the more impactful when he later. [SPOILER ALERT DONT READ ON PLS] Sends 'help' to assist Knuckles. It shows he never trusted or believed he would finish Sonic and, again in this twisted world, he is RIGHT to do so.
