But, they also hid a dark truth from that public, about the patients. All the inmates were serial child abusers, cannibals+murderers of children. The worst of the worst. Its worth noting, after this documentary helped lead to sanitariums being closed in the US (along with the Geraldo Rivera expose of Willowbrook). Many patients were released into the community.
The effects on children (and others) in the community, due to this mass release ...will NEVER be admitted too.
This also happened, later, in the UK. 'Care in the Community' ..at its VERY worst

I've been hospitalized for mental illness. While there are many great state of the art facilities there are ones just as bad building wise. The mistreatment is a lot less but still around.

These facilities have their own court system and court room inside those facilities that keeps the court hearings away from view
of the public, family and friends.

As regular court proceedings in public court are available for the public to see except in cases when the judge erases a hearing from
public, viewing tapes.

Today hyperthermia and isolation from family is used as a means to manipulate imprisoned people in State Psychiatric Hospitals 
as a means to manipulate the person into ingesting the chemicals even if it makes you sick and damages your body permanently.

I had s letter bond thick pages book from the asylum in Connecticut. I barely got pass the first chapter. The sickness the Doctor who tan the place and some of the staff was prue evil. This book was written by an person that typed it themselves like a journal of what they saw. The place was closed years ago. The book eas stolen but I don't think could of ever finished it. To this day I can think of the first chapter and easily give the Doctor Life plus the chair.

We did watch this in school in Sweden when i got my first degree in psychology and ethics, i don't know how to properly translate but it was involving those 2 topics at college level.
I remember it vividly because a girl who was so sweet started to cry and my teacher telling her "if you think this is bad, maybe you should stick to working with children".

My opinions from someone who has watched this documentary: it isn’t as bad as they say.

It contains footage of a deceased corpse being prepped for burial, a lot of mentally unstable people, naked people, lobotomy patients, some screaming, tubes down the throat and disputes between patients. I could see some of the guards were escalating patients and degrading them however however higher up the hierarchy this went. From what was captured, the nurses and staff felt good when a patient was successfully treated, the doctors cared for the patients.

In conclusion this is a far cry from what I’d personally classify as “disturbing”, more educational.

Worked in a forensic setting 30 years, maximum security Ashworth UK. I use a pseudonym online, this film/experiment was horrific even in it's day, and the antithesis of what we try our best to achieve. We deal daily with the most vulnerable, in the most testing, precarious environments, therefore a harmonious atmosphere is quintessential to patient and staff wellbeing (in that order, if you can't hack it, find new employment). The patients here, are clearly aggravated deliberately, as a sick guise of entertainment. I've had the misfortune to see this uncut, it's harrowing to hardened forensic psychiatry employees. Awful in them days too.
