Hey David, I found another one for you to check out. It's the Astier de Villatte Robusto mechanical pencil. I had to order one. Most of the sellers I found were either out of stock or in Europe but I managed to track it down at homebodydenver dot com.
ОтветитьI am curious if the lead is brittle: does it break or shatter inside if you drop it?
ОтветитьFischer makes other pen designs that features the same space pen ink technology. Or just buy a zebra click pen and refill them with a space pen ink cartridge.
ОтветитьI can't believe I watched entire video......
ОтветитьThe struggle is real. EDC pencils are hard! Thanks for this David! Just ordered a few 😍
Ответитьi wish i was little bit taller, I wish I was a baller
ОтветитьI love those types of pencils. I found a few of the Staedler pencils like that in my dad's old drafting stuff. I also have one from Rockler for the shop. If you get frustrated with the tip blunting, there is a small sharpener that you stick the tip in a spin it around. Its perfect for the desk top.
ОтветитьThe mechanism in the Koh-i-noor lead holder is the same mechanism that was in my engineer's mechanical pencil when I was in college back in the 1970's. They're much older than that, though. I still have one, though I don't use it. The sharpeners always created a very fine, long tapered point which would break off near the tip if you pushed just a little too hard. By the way, the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo astronauts all flew in spacecraft by engineers who almost universally used that type of pencil both for their calculations and for the drawings from which the blueprints for those spacecraft were made. That was long before CADCAM. The mechanism in that Versatil pencil has been part of Great Things.
ОтветитьI am happy you found that special pencil. I like .9mm and the Kaweco Special in brass may be the one but how many pencils does a person need? The next one.
ОтветитьBefore drafting became a computer job we used these to hold all our different drawing leads and aluminum rods to draw on Mylar. 37 years Ford automotive product designer.
ОтветитьHeh...I was thinking "Use some thread lock!" right before you said it. I've always liked the Staedtler Mars 780, same size lead but longer. I'll have to try yours. And . . . not boring at all!
ОтветитьMan you sure geeked out on pencils , but why not! Good job by the way!
ОтветитьMy favorite shop pencil is the “Pentel Twist-Erase III. It has 0.9 led and really resists breaking.
You should give them a try!
Red rocket!!! Lmfao
ОтветитьNice one! Now get that metal lace and a tungsten blank! That way you can get the heaviest - yet small - pencil... 😉
I am curious on how to machine tungsten. 🙃
They are Drafting pencils. Back in the stone-age (pre PC) they were the go to tool. there is a swivel sharpener available. You can also get different weights of lead might want to try a B lead its softer and makes a darker line, easier to see
ОтветитьCheck out the Fast Cap pencil from Fat Boy pencils. It's a clutch pencil designed for carpenters. Might have the extra beef you're looking for
ОтветитьDude - low key, I love this video! I've been so annoyed with the pencils I've had in the shop lately. They break, they're flimsy, unreliable, etc. This was actually super helpful! The time savings of not having to search for another, not broken-pencil is kind of a game changer haha.
ОтветитьFaber Castell TK4600 (Best pencil for technical or free drawing.(Use only 9071 2mm leads, for the best performance)) - Pentel Graphgear 500 (Best for drawing, can also write great with its super high precision and control, but not for long time.Great for sketching too.Use Pentel leads) - Koh-I-Noor 5340 (Best for ANY use! Sketching is where it shines more. Highest control and precision, means it can produce, the most beautiful handwriting! It can also use Red Chalk or Sepia,Charcoal,Colored leads literally anything! Most versatile and highest performance pencil,in the world. Use only Kohinoor leads)
These are the BEST pencils you can get!!!
Glue a strip of sandpaper into your field book for sharpening purposes. Great pencil.
ОтветитьI love topics like this. Pencils. Sketch books. Pocket knives. Stuff like that
ОтветитьCame for the unidentified but undeniably Roland piece of audio gear. Space Echo? No… Certainly not one of the Jazz Chorus heads. But I can make out "chorus" though it’s blurry. Will do some reading.
But yeah, Dad was a designer cum technical illustrator cum engineer and still had Koh-I-Noor and Steadtler pencil holders. I was a big fan myself as a teenager in art school. But Dude… DUDE, you will freakin love the Cretacolor lead holder. Check it my brother
(Normally, I don’t use bro talk but I feel we are brothers!)
No joke lead holders or clutch pencils are honestly the best thing ever, you can even strip pencils and get their lead and put them in the graphite holder
ОтветитьI put loctite on top and bottom to prevent the parts unscrewing
ОтветитьGreat topic man! Thanks!
ОтветитьStop saying this is boring! We love pencils! Thank you
ОтветитьGood review man
ОтветитьI like the rotring rapid pro in 2 mm. I like the clutch holders but don’t like the way the lead flies out.
ОтветитьNew subscriber here. Love the passion. Like hearing my own thoughts from another person.
ОтветитьFor me the best everyday carry is the Pentel Twist erase GT, I actually like the Twist erase III more for actual use but the reretractable tip on the GT is more pocket friendly.
Ответитьthis is a legendary pencil since it was introduced in 1946 - 77 years in production says something about it
ОтветитьThis defeats the purpose of it being mechanical imo you have to sharpen it ffs
ОтветитьPencil is far from boring. Pentel Kerry:best edc. Pentel Graphgear 500:best drawing. Pentel Twist ersse:best writing. Kohinoor 5340:Best at anything, but I like it even more for sketching, especially outdoors, because of the huge variety of leads it can use + its general versatility.
ОтветитьCheck out the Pentel Graph Gear in sizes from .3mm to .9mm
ОтветитьBuy a quality mechanical pencil, from Japan. Most mechanical pencils we get on this side of the world are crap. Of course it writes in the rain, the spacepen uses oil based ink like any other BIC, what makes it write in the rain is the paper.
Ответитьdude keeps saying it's a boring video like a bunch of nerds aren't watching, honestly
haha in all seriousness nice video, good addition for my research on mechanical pencil
Hi, the small one has the sharpener in its end, too. My favorite pencil! For my A6 sketchbook sets. I use B2 leads, they are better for sketching😊
ОтветитьMy Koh-I-Noor Versatil 5228 has a tip-sharpener in the removable thumb press. Not sure why yours doesn't. Also this kind of blew my mind when I discovered it on another video, but did you know that some people interchange things other than leads in theirs? such as biro refills and touchscreen stylus tips.
ОтветитьPsssssst….. your lead holder isn’t really any different than any other mechanical pencil other than you have to put a point on the lead when writing
ОтветитьLook for the Pilot Croquis Rotating Lead Holder
A bit thicker, have the rotating like your Pape Mate-pencil.
Any updates 3 years later? Have you finally found "The one"?
ОтветитьDid you ever find your perfect pencil. I made mine today by hacking a Staedtler 780C clutch pencil. Now it's on to the perfect pencil sharpener (or lead pointer). Great video.
ОтветитьI've been a mechanical pencil geek for years. If u r reading, try the bic Criterium.
Enjoy
rotring 800 2.0, 600 clutch or staedtler mars techno or 925
ОтветитьThe dog comment was not needed. Not child friendly.
ОтветитьI always enjoy a good pencil review. This one had a unique, fun twist. You managed in the same video to sell then unsell a pencil. Interesting! 😂
ОтветитьLet’s talk about erasers next
ОтветитьYou can use soft foam pencil grips to increase pencil diameter, but that will hinder pulling the pencil out of pocket.
I have the 5228 pencil as well and my metal tip also unscrews, going to use some 222 loctite, good suggestion.
