I remember seeing this clip on the show Most Shocking on the original Court TV (now truTV) and it was so crazy seeing that at the time. They did do an explanation as to the cause of the crash, something about too much aerodynamic forces that caused the car to lift up the way it did.

Call me out for being a nerd but…

The main problem to cause this sort of incident was the lack of aerodynamic stability, the track is made into sections where cars are at full speed most of the race where some areas are chicanes, and heavy braking zones and the CLR had to have low drag and also downforce but due to the short lengths of the wheels it made stability a little bit unstable, causing the car to rock back and fourth when accelerating and braking, so whenever the CLR accelerated, the front raises more rather than being planted with the help of the diffusers but they also took a lot of downforce from the front of the car which is another reason why the car flipped, so without the front downforce the cars front would raise causing this infamous moment we all know today
