Great episode until.....water swatting a perfectly healthy duck that landed in the dekes? That's sporting!

This does not seem worth it for me😂 seems like a shit ton of work plus one of the guys can’t even hunt cuz he has to be on the boat, plus they aren’t even good ducks😂

Got to mention to your viewers that duck hunting is Federally regulated. A strict bag limit, only THREE shells in your shotgun (You must have a plug, too), can use only STEEL shot, shooting times are highly regulated (don't ever abuse those rules). All-in-all, in wrong-doing the punishments can be very strict. Like guns and equipment confiscated, fines, court dates, ya da ya da. 😵‍💫

GREAT tutorial episode!! During the past several decades, we always saw large rafts just east of the Mackinaw bridge. Never many west of the bridge.

One really doesn't need a "layout boat" to layout hunt. We've hunted in open-water from an anchored 3-man camouflaged fishing boat for over fifty years with absolute GREAT successes. We always set the decoys at a maximum of 40-yards (furthest decoy). A high profile boat will not spook divers. True, it was awkward to retrieve downed-ducks at times never having a tender boat, but we always managed.

General rule for layout boats is not to sit up but to keep the gunner's head below the splash shield or boat profile. Sure, sometimes a bit harder to see the incoming birds, but reducing the profile is the point of layout boats. And as the overhead shot shows, marsh camo shows up very brightly from above, which is what the ducks may see. Better to use grey camo or a gray or army digital poncho over the jackets; no marsh grass out there in the middle of the water and the layout boat is gray. Danish layout gunners use small white boats and white camo (and pick up their shells); divers come from places where snow is common and white is not necessarily scary for them. On the Atlantic you can shoot scoters easily from a white fishing boat near the decoys.

Can't imagine the fuel bill with that Johnson 120. Good runner though!

I hate to be that guy but my only problem is the amount of shells left floating in the water. They will eventually wash up on shore or sink. When I go to a field, I hate seeing other hunters shells everywhere. Last dove season I fired 150 shells and I picked up every one of em. They don't degrade they just breakdown into smaller pieces. The wads are enough, unless you get fiber wads, at least pickup shells.
