Because I've gotten a lot of questions and comments about this recently: Nothing in this video was created using generative AI software. The script and voiceover were both done by me, a normal, flesh and blood human being. AI is an excellent tool that should remain a TOOL, not a replacement for any part of a creative process. I will never use generative AI software for my videos. Thanks!

I really love the potential of Illithid existing as peaceful scholars like Omeluum in BG3.

In my playthrough as a Great Old One warlock my character purposefully sought them out in search of undergoing ceramorphosis but bypassing the personality and soul loss in order to harness their mental capacity to academic purposes.

Of course there's the matter of their rather grotesque apetite but Omeluum, a peaceful Illithid scholar of the Society of Brilliance is working on a non-brain alternative nourishment. Likely a sort of psychic mushroom.

I am shocked this doesn’t have way more views, it’s so well made! I hope you do more for other BG3 :) races :)

A long time ago, I played a physically (And psionically) stunted mindflayer character who had leftover bone fragments of the previous human embedded in its crippled body, and they were haunted by the former human's ghost. Though incapable of picking up on this ethereal entity, the ghost would sometimes compel the mindflayer's behavior, decisions, and actions in odd directions. It was completely unaware of this interference until a psionicist interacted with the ghost through a seance using the mindflayer as the vessel and learned that he was using the mindflayer to complete unfinished business, while also acting as a psychopomp of sorts to alleviate the turmoil of the departed. In typical mindflayer fashion of course, as soon as my character learned this, it's first instinct was to attempt to bend the ghost to its will. Eventually after a long series of escapades in sabotaging each other's endeavors, the two found something of a symbiotic bond and were conditioned into coexistence by the rest of the party, as well as the mutual adversaries which threatened them. Kinda a weird character to roleplay, but I felt like the DM understood the concept I was going for, and the pay off was satisfying once it finally developed. BG3's story kinda drove up a lot of memories of that game, even though it's kinda the situation in reverse.

I think becoming a mind flayer is pretty cool rather than terrifying. It's nice that the game supports that mindset as well lol

a mind flayer can't have an octopod head because octopod means his head has eight feet. you failed your charisma deception check we all know you are using words you don't actually know.

"There is no more horrific death"
Try dying outside of the planar spheres (in space between space)
Your soul will be trapped there as it can't move on to the afterlife, as this space between spaces is completely disconnected from anything.

I have to wonder if the mind flayers were at all inspired by the Star Trek TOS episode Spock's Brain. The whole brain stealing and ruled by a over-brain thing made that episode spring to mind.

I found you through WoW content, loving every second of your hidden details and lore videos. I myself have gotten really into Baldur's Gate despite not knowing much about D&D and its lore beforehand so I loved this video!! The Illithid are such a cool and unique species and though mindflayers have been present in WoW, they really don't do the origin justice. Keep up the awesome work!!! <3

I know this is a little off the strip and has not really anything to do with your video, but hearing "Mind flair" made me think of my theory 😅 I still believe that the Stranger Things plot will be, that the show shows the imaginary visualization of the 4 kids playing D&D in their parents cellar as Eleven reads their minds from the lab as if they met, but they never have done so.

So Eleven never escaped, but they have lived their lives together as if they have met. Making the kids unaware of her actually forming the story they play out as a game of D&D, but they all secretly "feel" that she excists.
