One more question, Alex. I only want Parallels and Microsoft on my Mac so I can use Articulate Storyline, and nothing else. Could you recommend which Parallels would be enough for me. Thank you.

What is the advantage of Parallels over VirtualBox besides performance? I find VirtualBox to be fast enough; is there some other reason I should use Prallels?

Thank you for video, Alex!

I had VMWare Fusion for my MacBook Pro. I ran into numerous issue with drivers and keyboard functions when I would switch from Apple to Windows. I tried calling Parallels to get some information yesterday, but they hung up the phone three times before saying anything. I sent an email to their management, but will likely not hear from them until next week.

I encountered a black screen after installing Windows 11 Pro KB5031354 (22H2). I contacted AMD and Microsoft. AMD had me remove the GPU driver and other AMD software and then reinstall the components. Microsoft had me reset my PC, only later to escalate my call to a technician that told me to roll-back the Windows update and wait for a new driver to be released. I reached out to AMD to get their recommendation on replacing my Radeon RX 580 GPU. AMD recommended their Pro series as a replacement.

Dilemma:
1) We do heavy Photoshop editing on the Windows 11 Pro PC because Canon decided to abandon their practice of supporting our printer and its driver on our iMac Pro. However, we can use our Canon printer on our PC.
2) When I used my Minitab and Quality Companion software, I had to use it on a Windows PC or a virtual version of Windows on my MacBook Pro. I have many other applications that are also limited to Microsoft.
3) When I used VMWare Fusion on my MacBook Pro, I had issues with the drivers and keyboard functions. I have reservations about Parallels virtual software causing similar issues. I tried contacting Parallels, but they hung up the phone on me three times in a row before saying a word. I subsequently sent an email to their management. I even contacted Apple to determine if they could answer my questions on Parallels. You can imagine their response…contact Parallels.

Alternatives and other Concerns:
1) I could simply replace my Radeon RX 580 GPU, given it would use one of my motherboard slots and same power connection.
2) If it is my GPU now, how much longer will it be before my motherboard, CPU, or RAM become problematic?
3) I have very old WD SATA drives installed in my PC that account for 11 TB of storage. I also have two Intel SSD’s that account for 1.25 TB. I would like to replace my drives with M.2 NVMe drives before my other drives fail on me.
4) I looked at the Apple M2 with 64GB RAM and the i9 PC’s, but I have mixed feelings about both. The benchmarks I am interested mostly in are for Photoshop and Lightroom Classic workflows.

Apple M2:
i. Will Windows 11 Pro function properly on the Apple M2? If I recycle my Windows 11 Pro PC, can I use my previously licensed Windows 11 Pro O/S on the Apple M2?
ii. Will Parallels function properly?
iii. Will I have enough ports for my new M.2 NVMe drives? If so, is the Acasis 40Gbps the best enclosure to purchase?
iv. Will my wired Steelseries keyboard and mouse work on the Apple M2?
v. Will my wireless Bluetooth Logitech MX keyboard and mouse work on the Apple M2?
vi. Will my HDMI cable enable me to connect my LG 4K 27” monitor to the Apple M2? If so, will I be able to color calibrate it on the Apple M2?
vii. If all components are on-board the Apple M2, I assume I have no expansion capabilities? If one component fails, the computer is trash?

Windows i9 PC with 64GB Ram:
i. What motherboard would be best for heavy Photoshop usage?
ii. What GPU would be best for heavy Photoshop usage?
iii. Can my current case and power supply be repurposed, or would I need to either sell or recycle my current PC?

Google searches consistently place Apple computers above Windows based computers for Photoshop photo and video editing. It would be nice to have both operating systems, but not if I encounter the same issues that I had with VMWare Fusion. I would accept a little slower workflow in Photoshop, Lightroom, etc. rather than hunt for computer compatibility solutions.

Thank you.

i made the leap from PCs about a year back. I purchased a used M1 Mac Mini and was won over. I then purchased a 2012 Mac to use as a file server and then a mint condition i7 Macbook Pro 2015. My garage PC is a hackintosh and then despite all protestations, I purchased an iphone XS. Couldn't be happier.

For a laptop nothing comes close to a MacBook. I’ll be moving my windows development now that it’s becoming more reliable.

So is it still the case that x86-84 Windows versions cannot run on Apple Silicon Macs?
