The only way to address picky eaters is to not allow them to get this way. No child starved to death in a house full of food. If they’re hungry, they’ll eat.

As a nanny (that has cared for an autistic child) and an adult with autism I would say he needs an evaluation. It’s not as simple as put the “right” food informs of them. And there are some resources (not enough) for low income families that should help with child care and disability treatments.

I'm not sure why but my younger sisters were extremely picky eaters, refusing to even try certain foods. It got to the point every family supper time became an hours long argument. Our brilliant, kind, step mom , came up with an idea - if they tasted everything on their plate they got an milkshake - an can of children's pediaSure. I worked, they gradually started eating an more balanced diet. I had the same problem with my kids when they were toddlers - same solution worked. Both my younger sisters grew up to be lawyers. As a teenager one of my sisters discovered that it was dairy giving her an stomachs all these years. She tried lactose free dairy products - still upset her stomach. She's gone full vegan to avoid dairy upsetting her stomach and not eating meat due to personal mortal values.

It was discovered at least two hundred years ago that a teaspoon of lime juice administered every few weeks was sufficient to prevent scurvy in sailors.
Feeding him some sour gummy snacks from time to time should give him all the vitamin C he needs to avoid scurvy. Not saying it’s the most nutritious food in the world but if he has such severe sensory issues regarding food, it might be the best way to get some vitamin c in his diet.

Raising children was meant to be a two person job . A mother and a Father. The World and specially kids need adults who can put their children before themselves. I know what I am saying is idealistic and naive but just thinking how this poor mother would have raised the child had she the support of a responsible partner/spouse. Obviously she loves her son a lot. How sad for both mother and child.

Doctor was wrong to yell there are bad parents that truly hurt there kids then there are hard working ones that do to provide and can’t be with the child all the time. I don’t blame the parent as in hurting the child on purpose. She should of asked what he ate during the day tho.

This actually happened to my family when we were kids. Our mother was staying up late and preparing nice dinners so the babysitter could focus on us kids. She took us to the doctor when we became listless and hair was falling out. We were thin kids anyway, but became emaciated rather rapidly. The doctor said it was rather obvious we were starving.Upon further investigation it was found the sweet little granny had been stealing our family meals and feeding us one fish stick and a spoonful of peas a day. She made it seem like she was keeping the house clean. It was because she threw my little brothers (toddlers) outside in the morning and wouldn’t let them inside until our mother came home. Also turned out granny was part of a crime ring of shoplifters who had done time. You might wonder why I, a precocious seven-year-old never told on her. Well, my parents were going through a divorce and everything in our lifestyle had changed. A lot of unpleasant things were happening. The adults were always sad or mad about something. This was the 80’s when nobody got therapy and divorces were brutal and not a lot of help was there for families to navigate. Only the severely mentally ill or very wealthy got therapy for anything. With no internet, it was difficult to do background checks. Bottom line, if ANYTHING seems off with your small child you have in daycare, please seek professional help immediately.

One thing I know for certain now is A those who don’t have kids have plenty of opinions and don’t get it
B . Those whom have never been a single parent don’t get it either
Oh and C
Society judged harsh on parents when they are in the A or B catergory

As a mom of a child with ASD, one of the hardest part is their pickyness with food. My daughter, now 11 years old, has never eaten a normal Filipino food (rice and dishes) since she was 3, she had been eating the same food. French baguette slices, cheese pizza, mcdonalds chicken nuggets and instant ramens. Occasionally she would request for burgers, peanut butter sandwiches, donuts, cookies, icecream, chocolate chip cookies. It is very very expensive. But we make sure that she drinks milk before bedtime and takes vitamins and supplements after breakfast.

The trick is, to only give your babies healthy foods their first 2 years. If they are only offered meat, veg, and fruit, it is all they will know. Be playful with food and learn new ways to make them like the same thing. I tried so many recipes on my son his first year of eating. Some he like some he didnt but i made enough that i had enough recipes under my belt for him. Doing in the hard way early on really pays off.

As a mother myself, I would have noticed my son or daughter getting thinner, and would had made sure that they were eating at least three meals and snacking. This mom was just so busy with life and overwhelmed that she thought he was getting fed and he came down with some thing and that’s why he was so thin and weak.? Assumption is some thing that is overlooked. U can’t assume anything
