My hubby doesn’t like going anywhere he can’t wear a hat. I always felt this ridiculous. But I can appreciate that wanting to wear a hat in public should not be seen as strange. It’s head modesty.
ОтветитьWe have a law regarding wearing hats in Turkey. The penalty for not wearing a hat was 3 months in prison, but it was never implemented. The law is still valid but not implemented in practice.
ОтветитьI recently watched a video the on English Queen's Milner (Camilla). Her wedding hat used wheat. Plants can take the place of birds.😊 I only have 1 hat. It is a canvas explorer type hat. I really enjoy seeing hats, but I don't enjoy wearing them. I am 68 years old. 😊
ОтветитьI think it's much simpler and ironically ties in to the male date pouring scorn on the woman wearing a hat. There were big floppy hats in the 1960/70s, but those in themselves (with their lack of formal structure) and the erasure of formal dress privately and professionally was an aspect of rebellion drawn from the counter-culture. The zenith of formal attire was headgear. Hat and glove wearing became seen as something politically backdated and indicative of backwards thinking. Look at the WOKE lunatics today for how opinion is constructed. If you wear a dress from the 1940s, they screech that you are in favour of slavery and segregation or some such nonsense. These WOKEs have no idea about history or politics, but they believe that their opinions are facts just because they have them and they're morally superior to everyone, so they're entitled to every word they utter holding the status of solemn truth. There is a certain amount of data on the millennials where WOKEism was born, having self-worth being so intense that it hits chronic narcissism. A book called Generation Me looks at an important cross-generational study that she'd light on this.
The quasi-Marxist element in the 1960s and today condemns hats as a celebration of bygone age. Instead of understanding that we are not stupid and appreciate that past ages had their good and bad aspects - just as today does - if we wear a hat we are in danger of being attacked by WOKE bullies. The 1960s started the trend of dishevelled dress equally political freedom. It has taken many decades to see manners and Western culture decline along with the lack of formality in dress.
I wear hats and I want to buy more
ОтветитьI think hats can be flattering, but I can’t stand wearing anything on my head. I don’t like wearing a hat or headband, so I guess I’m glad they went out of style.
ОтветитьBeanies and caps are still popular. They're small and beanies can easily be folded and placed in a pocket or backpack as a teen in high school
ОтветитьWill someone please explain to me why men's hats come in sizes but women's are one-size-fits-all? If shoes come in sizes for both sexes why shouldn't hats? Since this was not always the case what changed? Have women's heads undergone some sort of strange evolution over the past several decades and become strangely uniform while men's have not?
ОтветитьHats need to go come back.
ОтветитьLove hats. Have more than I ever wore
ОтветитьWhile hats were worn at one time to serve a purpose, today's dress has become too casual and sloppy. When I was a child, little girls were still taught to curtsey and little boys to bow as well as little girls wearing white gloves, white anklets and hats. I think they are a beautiful accessory to the well dressed lady but as I said, today's dress is just, many times, repulsive. I wish those days would come back into fashion where elegance and grace were valued along with the well dressed and poised young lady. 😊😊😊😊
ОтветитьI think hats are great. And there are so many really cool ones especially the old ones something from like the Victorian age or really something I can't wear hats I get really bad headaches and not only do I get really bad headaches when I put a hat on my scalp will sweat profusely. I'm naturally even at
my 72 years old I've
alwsys been a big sweater. Even at my old age. So those are the 2 reasons i dont wear a hat. Only when I need to like run an errand and I haven't washed my hair I'll pull my hair up into a ponytail and then put one of those I don't know what they call and they're like a little I call them duck bill hats cuz they have that little piece in the front Lincoln Center out of your eyes and then it has an adjustable strap in the back even in winter just to protect my ears but they aren't tight on my head they're loose oh and my scalp will sweat profusely even in winter time
Hats can slow down the facial skin aging process, they can protect your skin from sun damage, and are a stylish way to hide those grey roots in between dying. I adore hats and have always seen them as a perfect accessory to an outfit. I have a wall full of them, so I can always see them, and pick the right one for the outfit.
ОтветитьI am a 63 y/o European woman in the USA and love my hat collection. I wear them wherever I see fit and usually get compliments.
What changed with Vatican II is that women and girls were no longer required to cover their heads as before. I am from Spain and had a little white veil (the size of a plate) that I wore to go to church with my grandma around 1965-1968. Grown ups wore black veils, never hats.
I want to be a millionaire: 😣
I want to be a millinery: 😍
When I was a little girl hats and gloves for going out were standard for women. I looked forward to wearing my own , only to find that they were not fashionable when I was old enough.
ОтветитьI’m 40 and since I’m 30 I wear hats, berets or bennies . I wear nothing only if I have to.
ОтветитьYou say the kids during the depression didn't wear hats because they didn't think it was cool. I disagree that that's the only reason. A hat costs money. It's not a necessity and there are other things you could be buying for your child with that money.
ОтветитьI had so much fun wearing a wide brim hat instead of a veil at my wedding! It's true, wearing an amazing hat totally changes everything!
ОтветитьMy mother married in 1948 and wore a pillbox hat at the back of her head in the style of Jackie Onassis. She had naturally curly hair and I’m guessing it was too big for the hat to be worn at the front.
ОтветитьI'm big on hats and own many types -- many no longer fitting. Can I say this: I am not bald, but have always had a somewhat high forehead (young life and being selfconcious?) After an accident, becoming aware in a hospital -- accident was over a month prior, I evenually took to often wearing hats. Basically I like hats, esp,. on women. Crazily, or sadly, I have taken to mainly wearing an outback crusher type hat, or a flatcap. I've had my head shaved again, but usually have a full head of long hair.
Ответитьlots of women still wear hats. they also still wear dresses, sundresses, etc, and hats complement those outfits well. it doesn't look strange. lots of women also wear long evening gloves to special occasions, and it doesn't look odd (if they can pull off the look).
a guy wearing shorts, t-shirt, and a fedora, a straw boater, or a newsboy cap looks completely ridiculous and just sad. the hat doesn't match the outfit, and nobody wants to go around wearing a wool suit in July so their hat will match.
hell, most people don't want to go around wearing a suit any time of year.
it doesn't matter who you are. if you're a guy, you look terrible in any kind of hat except a beanie, a baseball cap, and (on some guys) a bucket hat/fishing hat. that doesn't include military hats. they look ok because they match the outfit you're wearing.
thank god hats aren't in fashion. good riddance. they look hot, heavy, uncomfortable, and smelly. whenever i think of the Old Days, i imagine wearing scratchy, hot, uncomfortable clothes, my hair being greasy and sweaty, my shoes being uncomfortable dress shoes, and having to wear a ridiculous hat.
i'm quite happy with my shorts and t-shirts and flip flops, thanks.
In the 80s, I asked my grandmother how she felt about not wearing hats any more. She said, "you had to have hat, bag, and shoes to match. It was a pain in the neck."
ОтветитьMen wore hats in the 1950s. Until the Kennedys. But Jackie wore pillbox hats.
ОтветитьAside from the fact women didn't seem to have any concept of what hat shapes were actually flattering to the shape of their face, which meant no matter how beautiful the hat it could still look awful on the woman... I'm on the side of the birds in all of this. British high society actually did make several species of bird extinct between their rabid excess consumption of hats and other finery and their ostentatious hunts on their estates. No animal should die for fashion. Use fake feathers or find something else to decorate your hats.
Ответитьlook at any American car from 1949. they looked like hats. then, in 1958, GM went to "longer, lower, wider" and you had to take off your hat to get in the car. if you had two adults in front and 3 kids in back, where would you put the hat?
every hat Lois Lane wore in the old Superman show was ridiculous. so small, she had to use a hatpin to hold them on.
The hats worn by female military officers were all designed in 1958. they scream 1958.
It’s just a piece of the entire sewing industry. Fabric used to be sold everywhere. And then machines became awesome and now nobody sews
Ответитьwhere would i put my hat when i get into my car when all the seats are used
ОтветитьHair styles were inconsistent with hats. Now, I cut my hair to permit hats every day.
ОтветитьI have worn a hat to church nearly every Sunday for the last couple of years. At nearly 70 years old, I decided I didn't need anyone's approval to do so. When I was a teen, I was anxious to get "grown" enough to wear them, bur styles changed. An advantage of old age is that society pressures weigh much less on many of your decisions.
ОтветитьMy hat of to you. To me it's predominantly a habit, going outside without a hat on feels to me the same as forgetting my shoes.
ОтветитьDue to cultural and societal push, we do not wear hats anymore, and I do regret it!
ОтветитьHats are a wonderful way to block sun from skin/eyes (safety) and make us look amazing!
ОтветитьI am horrified by a grown woman not knowing her own body. But I have a MEMORY from around age 3 of being beaten unmercifully, having been caught (I was not hiding; I didn't know I was being "BAD") studying my genitals in a mirror. But how is looking at a baby's genitals so upsetting? David, you are reminding me of my mother, beater of children who look. Ignorance is the horror here, not the looking, which dispelled the fucking ignorance. What in hell is wrong, David, with YOU AND MY MOTHER? Do you feel the baby was somehow damaged? Good God!! I am 84 and cannot wait until I am dead and FREE AT LAST FROM ALL IGNORANT JUDGMENTAL VIOLENT MONSTERS WHO KNOW EVERYTHING AND NEVER EVER DO ANYTHING WRONG.
ОтветитьMy mom hates when I wear 40s style clothes, hair, etc. because it's the style she was rebelling against in the 60s and 70s. She thinks I look like an old lady because I love snoods lol
ОтветитьMy problem with hats of all kinds, is keeping them securely on my head where I want them to stay! I have a larger head, apparently, for a woman, so I often feel they try to spring off my head in a few minutes! I have tried fastening them to my hair, but a nail thru my skull would be more effective. And how do they stay on if it is windy?? I love hats, but end up with hoods. Sigh....
ОтветитьSomeone came in and focused on charging women to cut off their hair and then sell them wigs.
ОтветитьI never leave the house without wearing a hat. I live in Seattle. 🤷🏻♂️
ОтветитьThank you so much0🙏💐
ОтветитьBirds are not creepy. No they are NOT!
ОтветитьWe don’t have soot and ash falling on our heads like people used to, which was a practical reason for everyday hats. It’s the same reason why most Americans don’t wear coats outside all year round, because we have paved roads that don’t cover us with dust when we’re walking outside.
ОтветитьI wear my fisherman/bucket hat whenever I go out under the sun, for protection & not to look "cool"😑 does everything had to be all about appearance, instead of utility?
ОтветитьMy mother was a devote Catholic in the 60's and we went to church every Sunday. When they started that rule where you didn't have to cover your hair in church. All the women in church still had their head covered. Most Catholic's of the time felt this was not just a church rule to cover your head. But something that God wanted us to do. It became personal between you and God. You would be in an unclean state if your head wasn't covered. So, I wore a veil to church every Sunday. And my mother made sure of it. I stopped going to church when the news broke that Catholic leadership were hiding pedophile priests moving them from one church to another.
Ответитьwhat happens to hats when horse racing finally goes away
ОтветитьMuch of my formative years I was told never to wear a hat. (In school) which was pretty much the only place I went other than to the playground.
They look so pretty though, especially pinned to the side. But I don't have the hair skills, or fashion skills to pull off a hat.
