Awwwww. Fail for best hunting round. Should have been the 30-06. It has better ballistics and comes in a wider range of grain, making it plenty more useful on thicker targets like bears. The ONLY thing the .308 excels at is fully auto weapons due to the short action. Other than that, it gets out performed in every other way possible by more than just 30-06. So you're simply way off in choosing .308 for best hunting round. More like. People still think it's a military round, so they buy it because they think the military chooses what's best, even though it hasn't been a service round since the 70's and holds the record for the shortest active military round in history. There's no reason for the .308 to even exist any more other than it was extremely overhyped.

Shot the 270 win for years and plenty of power at long range for deer. But hunting elk i moved to the 6.8 western which is an deadly round!

Lot of animals get a bad shot and run of die fays later, long rang shooting is not for most, stay at 300yard or less

.260rem outshoots its daddy the 308 past 1000 and just edges out the CM too imho

It is of little interest for the majority of shooters to talk about unknown calibers. If you speak for the specialists ok. But I want an easy and practical ammunition. In the past the 270 win or the European 7/64. The 300 win mag for the strongest, and the 270 WSM now. Congratuations. JFB

Depends on what you're hunting.For deer a 6.5 Creedmoor is perfect if you are keeping you're shots to 350 and under.But for elk or Moose a 300 win mag is a better choice,as long as you can handle the recoil comfortably..For multi species hunts within 350 yards and closer a 270 with 140s or 150 Nosler Partition ,Accubond are good as well.The 130 Nosler Ballistic tip is perfect for deer

It is amazing how have ignoring the 7mmRm , a caliber with a big capacity for a low recoil. Instead they want to promote and put inside our brain these new calibers like 6.5 prc. Somebody has declare the war to 7mmRm and want to make it dissapear

I agree with the people who have their own favorite gun. But I'll take the 30.06, 270, or 7mm08, 300wm. But the 308 to me along with the the 6.5 new. Had a 308 shot a good buck trailed it 1/4 mile sold it and went back to my 30.06. Nuff said. Semper-Fi

Best for hunting and you choose a 308? It depends on what you're hunting and where! I'd want something a bit more powerful than a 308 if I was in Alaska going after moose or grizzly. One of the big 375's comes to mind there (375 H&H, 375 RUM or 378 Wby Mag).

All of those are good, but the 270 Winchester is much flatter than the 308 and always have me better groups

Lots of good stuff here but for hunting the obvious is overlooked. The 30-06 and .303 British. M1 and Lee Enfield rifles are both excellent for hunting and much cheaper than those shown.

To me, 300 win mag is such overkill. A bear at 300 yds. Sure, but not deer. A 25-06 for deer. A 308 for a little bigger and a 30-30 for close hunts. My go to would be my savage 110 24"barrel 25-06 cant measure groups cause ther so close. My sauer fieldshoot 308 goes off like a cannon but it loves 500 yd shots. Both sighted 200 yds. Trajectory close enough between both at 100 yds to 300 yds. Thats My comfortable hunting zoneI. I have hit 8" steel at 850 with my 25-06. Just for shits n giggles. Its such a sweet lookin smooth shootin rifle. Thumbhole stock. My baby. Dont get me started on my sauer 308 fieldshoot. It likes to drop deers in their tracks too. 2 best rifles a man could ask for

I love my 7saum 22", light, accurate, mild recoil. Getting a 308 in a couple days though because ammo cost and availability.

You forgot 30-06 stronger and faster than 308 and 270 ,plus 7mm Remington magnum calibers and 257 Weatherby

Accuracy is more a result of rifle and ammo than cartridge.

In bear country 308 is the minimum. Too many deer hunters have been surprised by bear sniffing their kill and sneaking up behind them while they are cleaning the deer. You may get only one shot after it tackles you if you can grab your rifle and chamber a round. It also applies for stalking a deer and kicking up a wild boar. Typically they'll try to slash you and run away but you'll want to put it in the dirt before you get that tusk up your leg. If it gets the femoral artery its worse than being mauled by a bear and at least living.

6.5 cred. Has lost its glamor to montana hunters too many lost game or multiple bullet holes, hunters using 270,30-06 or 300mag. Or 338 mag.stay away from Barnes bullets crappie.

All these different calibers these days are nothing more than more choices and preferences..i have killed deer with a 17HMR and 22LR and guys on the tube constantly shoot hogs with pellet rifles.. Shot placement is the key with any caliber..

When I watch these videos and see people grabbing the barrel or propping the barrel on a rest, all I can think is.... such ignorance.. Why are free floated barrels more accurate? Because they are not touching anything.. When a barrel touches anything, it interferes with the harmonics of the barrel which makes it less accurate.. so to all you barrel grabbers and barrel proppers out there, STOP IT.. I let my brother-in-law borrow a Pre-64 Winchester of mine and he complained and said he missed a couple of deer with it and I told him to show me how he was shooting the rifle. When he shouldered it, he wrapped his hand around the very end of the forearm and barrel and I stopped him and told him to not grab the barrel in any way. He then proceeded to shoot the gun at a target and shot a 1' group with it.. After that, he dropped all deer that he shot at with that rifle..

They say 300PRC is comparable to 338 Lapua with less recoil.
Is this true?

The 300wsm has similar ballistic of the 300win mag and work very well with 180gr up to 212gr and use a bit less powder too.

Anyone else notice all those game shots were horrible hits

30-06 most versatile round out there

The 6.5 gaymoore is not a great long range cartridge it's a small cartridge that shoots long heavy bullets that loses it energy quickly

.308 is the best. 6.5 creedmore is good, but it lacks the slam factor the .308 has.
