DmC: Devil May Cry - What Happened? (ft. Derek from SSFF)

This game was a blast tbh

Regardless of potential, no idea is safe from bad execution. The thought of making a game that serves as a jumping on point for people who have no prior experience with the genre does have a degree of merit. I have read work that treated "Super Smash Bros." as a similar intro to fighting games.

The funny part is that DMC was actually fun and well designed. If it were an original IP, it would have been super successful. It was good, it just wasn't a good Devil May Cry game.

What if they mad dmc another universe and that donte crossed over to the normal universe and became Nero

I just got into dmc and I am playing thru them all I have play 1,2,3 and know I’m playing dmc reboot and tbh I really like it so far not going to lie I don’t get the hate but I’m happy there’s a 5 but I would love to see a sequel

Honestly I still like the game. You do have to tolerate the cringe (see: Succubus fight) but from a gameplay perspective this wouldn't be a bad way to introduce a newbie to the series. Get their feet wet in a way they can still have fun and then play the better games with some of the skills they learned.

i still like this game, but definitely not gonna pretend that dmc3 and 5 aren't waaay better (and probably 4 but i haven't played that one yet)

Honestly dmc: devil may cry was good people just didn’t like change. They even implemented a lot of features of the game where in devil may cry 5. I actually liked 4,dmc, and 5 the best. 3 was good but it had a lot of boring/annoying levels. 1 and 2 were just meh-bad. But I’m a big fan of the series. I like all of them despite the flaws in all of them. And I liked dante in dmc because really acted like most teens at that time. All of my friends liked it too both Dante’s where cool people just from different eras.

I just watched this, having now played the game and is so strange how mishandled the entire thing was. If they had said "We know the fans are very attached to the previous iteration of Dante, but we did not want to merely copy it and created something new and different and we're sure if you try it, you'll love it" I think people would have accepted the changes more. The fact is, the game is REALLY good, and the fact that a mouthy dev couldn't stop getting in his own way really screwed it over.

TBH DMC was a good game. It just had an unfortunate name...

I didnt know Capcom was so popular in the west compared to Japan, I mean I figured there was a noteable difference but I didnt know it was 10/90

I'm just gonna say this: DMC was a big part of my late childhood; I played 1-3 on PS2, with 3 being the only one I actually liked enough to complete. Four was a disappointment in my teenage mind, and I swore off the series, after that. DMC: Devil May Cry reignited my love for the series (albeit years later, due to a sale :P), and I hate-played it just to remind myself how good the rest of the franchise was. Turned out loving it :P the DMC "remake" was my favorite game in the series 'til 5 came out and blew me away, so it's always gonna have a special place in my heart, even being the trash fire it was, in terms of PR XD

The 30 fps lock on console might explain why I was confused about the extreme hate on dmc reboot.

It's not that bad of a game bar trying to play bar playing it on DMD without getting knock back because "wrong weapon"

Playing DMC on 30 fps is like playing CSGO on 200 ping.

I was disappointed back then when they rebooted. But gotta be honest man game is fantastic. I dont mind having 2 multiverse dmcs.

That dude must’ve been trained by Hollywood. “Let me take a franchise and remake it to my own work.” Why don’t you just make a completely different game and leave Dante out of it. Personally the game looked good and it was a little wacky but to much change is something I’m not into. Watched the game movie,… will probly never watch it ever again. Just saying.

We both grew up with and love the OG series, however, I have always been a punk and was an edgy kid. In 2014 I heckin' loved how emo Donte was.

Two things that DmC did correct:

- The soundtrack by Combichrist.
- The Bob Barbas bossfight, even if it's too easy in terms of gameplay.

God I hope we get a sequel from Ninja Theory one day, it may not be for you but as a longtime fan of the series I really enjoyed dmc for what it is. Different strokes for different folks. Also if you care wether or not you get laughed at walking out a bar then you need to grow tf up lol.

I do still enjoy DmC: Devil May Cry. It's combat and gameplay was awesome. The music fitted the tone/theme and it did give some of that epicness to making combos. The story was lukewarm but had potential same with that Dante. The game was basically: good ideas with somewhat bad execution in many aspects. The funny thing is Hideaki Itsuno wanted a sequel to DmC before he went ahead on DMC 5. So to him this game was something he acknowledged and respected.

The crazy thing is as controversial as this game was. It influenced a lot of core gameplay aspects for DMC 5, you can tell a lot of things and ideas were taken from DmC reboot and fine tuned perfectly into the og Dmc forumla for 5. So in a weird way, this game did pave the way for the Smoking Sick Style that is DMC 5.

The director of DMC^2 seems like he knows how to make competent games, probably going thru the weird alternative stuff that was popular in the 2000s.

I loved devil kings, it got me hooked on the sengoku basara games/anime.

I enjoyed this game. It was fun sadly it just wasn’t the devil may cry game people wanted.

Hey Hey...Onimusha Dawn Of Dreams was a great game. I loved it. Capcom should make an actual HD collection of the Onimusha games. I need it so bad. I also need a episode of what happened to Dawn Of Dreams. I'm curious about how it failed as some people say.

unironically would've been really interesting if it wasn't a dmc game and was just a whole new ip, i don't think anyone would've minded that, there's some cool ideas in it. i like to think combichrist saw the final product and were like "time to carry" because the ost is such a banger

I enjoy this game. Its not Dmc3 or 5. But the morphing levels look unique and the ost slaps.

Unpopular opinion: I thought DMC was the best one. No, I am not trolling, I'm not being an edgelord, I just honestly loved this game.

This game has a pretty big cult following nowadays, people appreciate the artstyle, combat, story, and the new looks to the characters.

Been playing dmc since playstation 2 and I Love DmC . The scythe , axe , combos and entire feel was great . The they live feel was great and I look at it as an else world's story. I also love watching Vergil and Dante work together , because of your bitching over a game we don't get to see what the sequel could've been. I Love DmC 5 but people were straight up weird and dumb about this game . I also loved Kat More than freaking lady and every other chick besides Trish . Trish is the Only female that is a treat I can't stand lady in DmC3 she's insufferable I'd rather them replace her with Lucia . You can't have a human do the things lady was doing I'm sorry like wtf does she have super senses there is no way .. Arkham had to do things to become as strong as he was lady just had what plot strength?...... Anyways DmC is Fire I Love it . And DmC 5 is my favorite game in the world and I play DmC HD collection along with dmc4 all the time .

I'm gonna be honest, the game is not that bad, and I don't consider this game a reboot, but a reimagination of the franchise. I still can feel tha DMC vibes, the soundtrack is so wild, and I liked Dante's and Vergil's design.

Even though I'm not one to usually care about such things, the game did look way better at 60fps, I gotta admit.

Reboot failed cause literally no one wanted a reboot until the main games were done. I wouldn't mind it if it came after they finish up the og timeline first.

Wait, KUNG FU CHAOS is one of the best games on the original XBOX, i can tell you didn't play it or heard about it.

I always thought when I saw the 1st trailer back in 2010 I would have been 23 that this was not Dante BUT someone who was brain washed, experimented on and drugged to think he was Dante and only stayed in that little city slaying Demons or what he thinks are Demons and it aimed a bit at physiology horror with the Hack and Slash with this other Dante not knowing what is real.....if they did that I'd think it would have been better but that's just me

If It has "DMC" in the name, for whatever reason, good or bad. Gamers will play it. I personally played all of them. The dmc definitive edition was quite good. But what killed it for me was that you couldn't play as a demon during devil trigger. I would forget it even existed, and I only used it in the last mission. Other than that, the weapons and combos were pretty dang awesome.
