Is there any way to check that there exist any number within the first 3 characters in the following example: A5C-123-001???

How do I deduct letters, example: Alameda, I want to cut everything except A, from Alameda it will be A, so when I merge the data, the Directory in word will show Drop Cap as A, next line Alameda, and so forth, if I don't have this in excel extra column this deduction, the word document will show A(the drop cap) and repeat alameda. I don't want this repetition. I want the drop cap exclusively alone first line, and 2nd paragraph the Alameda County etc. If I have the data in Access, I would not have this problem that has a feature to deduct the Heading letters to make the Drop Cap. How do I avoid repetition from excel data when I merging in word. Example: Alameda has many depts, etc. If Alameda has 5 depts, it will repeat in the word document 5 times the Alameda heading. How it can display only one time Alameda and it's depts, and next county like Alpino should do same no repetition.

The easy way to do all these is to switch to Google Sheets and use the SPLIT() function 😉.
