I worked in the veterinary field for ~15 yrs, several yrs in neurology. French bulldogs came into neuro every day with herniated discs. ~$8-$15k surgery. Sometimes it happens twice. They also have to be carefully monitored under anesthesia due to being brachycephalic. This breed has serious genetic problems and breeding is getting out of control. And bully breeds are the most common one to find in animal shelters. They are often waiting there the longest, and if its a kill shelter, they may never find a home before its too late. They don't need to be bred so much, there are so many out there. Docking body parts is inhumane, many vets won't even do it.

I appreciate you bringing light to this issue and I really hope one day more regulation is introduced & enforced in this matter. In fact, I think I'm going to send messages to my local officials. Might not do anything, but at least I can speak up for those who can't.

Abusive conditions like this can't exist if there isn't a market for it. I cannot fathom spending money on a living breathing animal. 99% of the pets I have had through my life have come from shelters. The very few my family bought were from low quality pet stores where the pets were kept in very poor condition and were considered to be rescues. But that is a vicious cycle since it feeds that market. Once my parents realized this they stuck to shelters only. My precious calico of 10 years is from a shelter, her and her siblings left on a dirt road in a cardboard box in the cold rain, mother nowhere to be found. She is the healthiest cat I have ever had, and the sweetest and most affectionate. She will be my last as over her life I have slowly developed pet dander allergies that only get worse with exposure. But I feel lucky and honoured as someone who has had cats my entire 27 years of life that she is my last one, she is so loving, always purring, very forgiving, never stays mad at me long, so vocal and has such a personality. And this is the way every cat and dog should be, and many won't with this sick industry continuing to be funded.

After years of trying to destigmatize a breed that is often misunderstood and demonized, these assholes are undoing all that hard work because they want money, clout, and to look tough.
I dont know about the accusations that they're breeding for dog fights (though I wouldnt be surprised, at the very least these folks are "gangsters" that never became real gangsters) but I believe the reason why these breeders co-opt manosphere redpill alpha male language is because they're actually part of that circle and/or are dog whistling (ha) at that circle.
And yes these are puppy mills. They're ritzy puppy mills but still puppy mills. Not all mills are breeding out of their backyards with their "stock" in tiny cages.
If you want a pitbull or bully breed, make sure you do the research and adopt one from a shelter ❤

The way these people and the people who they market the Bullies to treat these dogs just makes me super sad. I live in the UK and my bestie and her partner have a Frenchie and an American Bulldog, so when the banning of the XL Bully came about they were really worried about what that would mean for their Ameircan Bulldog since he was also in the size category. He's super sweet and an anxious little guy and they work really hard to train him properly, but because of how Bulldogs are seen and treated by these "alpha male" type people, dogs that are trained properly also suffer.

I've been lucky enough to only ever meet super sweet Bulldogs and I really hate how media and by people like this market and portray these poor animals :(

I HATE INSTAGRAM DOG BREEDERS SO BAD!!!!!! And that's not even mentioning the fact that the English bulldog breeders artificially inseminate their English bulldogs in order to reproduce BECAUSE ANATOMICALLY THEY CANT MATE WITH EACH OTHER SINCE THEIR BODILY PROPORTIONS ARE SO FUCKED UP. They managed to fuck up these poor animals to the point where they physically cannot breed on their own due to the disproportionate nature of their limbs in relation to the rest of their tiny little bodies

Mind you, I don't have any specific ideas on how the government or police would go about enforcing such laws.

anyone who's been on Petfinder for any amount of time knows that quite a bit of them are puppy mill dogs. and they're all super messed up behaviourally.

i definitely think breeding the flat-faced dogs should not be legal bc they can't friggin breathe

i have a pittie (like 6 different breed mix) though; my guess as to why they got the reputation as dangerous is bc they're high energy and VERY smart. which can easily lead to behaviour problems for people who aren't as experienced owning dogs.

God bless that crap beeing illegal here. Doesn´t keep some shady individuals from still doing it in their backyard or import such animals, but it´s not a systemic issue like it has been for the longest time. Sadly a few people like this with internet access drag the entire principle of breeding into the mud. I get it, proper breeding is hella expensive, but then just don´t do it and get a normal job, like everyone else...

I´d always recommend to adopt a mutt, if you ain´t searching for specific traits. Just don´t fall for the crap that it´s always fluff and rainbows with them. As any dog, they too require a lot of dedication and knowledge to properly integrate them into a family. Especially when they have a problematic backstory.

I think ultra masculine men should be sold on the idea of commissioning art of ultra masculine fursonas rather than like… buying an animal that is specifically bred to suffer as a status symbol.

Obviously don’t use terminology like “fursonas”—call them personal mascots or something, images that can be printed to go on the back of whatever car is considered the manliest these days, or something to that effect. It could be like… a revival of the times when rich people would hire artists to paint a million portraits of themselves. These guys get their egos stoked, and artists get paid. Win-win.

Probably wouldn’t happen, but I could dream.

Pit Bulls are actually just evil, im tired of coping saying "oh its the owners!" really? Then wed see a more even distribution of fatal dog attacks across more breeds, here in America pitbulls make up well over 50% of all dog fatalities, around 250, the 2nd highest is Rottweilers that only have about 50.... yeah yeah its the owners no clear signs in statistics here right? we really oughta ban those evil creatures.

In ethical breeding dogs are extensively proven and health tested according to breed standard. Aggression and nerve issues and breeding that cant be trained out if its in the dogs genetics. It can ve managed at best. For powerful breeds, especially those predisposed to DA and HA, ethical breeders are crucial for the dog and owners success. "Breeders" like these are the reason why so many breeds get demonized bc they produce unstable and unhealthy dogs. Crypobanks are a good resource for breeders to preserve not only great examples of breeds but can be very crucial in helping save rare dog breeds in danger of dying out.

Ear cropping is not only cosmetic. Working breeds like dobies need their ears cropped to lower the amount of injuries they may get to their ears. If their ears are flopping around they can get snagged, pulled, bitten, torn, etc. If you get the ear cropping done correctly and at the right age it is painless. But most extreme bully breeders will do it themselves and that causes infection and can be very painful for the puppies.

I've always hated designer breeding, we used to breed dogs with traits that made them stronger and healthier so they could help us with various tasks and be a proper companion but now that we've gotten to full domestication we've moved on to, as Colleen Ballinger would put it, monetizing their demise. I can't imagine looking at another creature and thinking "you know what would be ideal? If this creature was cuter so it can be my cute wittle desgner accessory 🥺". It's a literal living being, that is not an accessory. The way people just don't respect nature anymore concerns and saddens me.

And another thought- what happens when this stupid little trend inevitably dies out? These puppy mills are breeding thousands of high-price dogs. Where do they all go when people stop buying? They're living animals, you can't just "liquidate your assets" if you know what I mean. Hundreds of thousands of dogs without homes or people who care about them because their whole purpose in life is for a human to make a quick buck. Heartbreaking.

Know who bred your animals guys, not just dogs. I have a ball python and reptile breeders for pet stores are notoriously shitty and are a large reason you still see morphs out there like spider, which put simply is a scale pattern that comes with known neurological issues to varying extents. These poor guys usually have a head wobble (inability to hold their head up right), cognitive issues, and even seizures. Any good breeder knows that if a spider morph comes into your hands you should just give it the best quality of life you can and NEVER breed it. Sorry about my tangent I know this is about dogs the snake thing is just personal, I might be getting a spider next month because my dad and I saw one at the local place where I get my rats. Poor guy couldn't even lay his head on a rock normally. We don't want someone who's clueless about his condition to buy him.

The pocket bully is actually the most controversial. Xl and xxl bullies are bred to excess BUT pocket bullies are too and have extreme health consequences bc of size. Bullies are also not banned most places, pit bulls are which means people with American bullies are often able to keep their dogs. I have a classic American bully, pure bred from the pound. I have done alot of research. ADDITIONALLY, pocket bullies can cost 30,000$. They are far more controversial
