My Dad and I were connected through music. As a kid I remember driving through the Colorado mountains with the top off his '69 Bronco listening to Willie, and singing Blue Skies and on The Road Again at the top of our lungs.
Later in life we drove trucks together. We would hear a new song or artist and call each other and share the song. I was a pearl jam fam since my grunge days.

When he first heard this version, he sent me the video. This became our song.

Later when he got cancer, he and Watched the video again in hospice. It was my good bye. I played it in his funeral.

It pops up on my speakers at some of the most ironic times, passing through our home town, passing his family farm in Nebraska, heading to his memorial, when I miss him. I feel like he is still around, and he sends it to me when he is near.

2023 and here I am. Listening with my beautiful wife. Not even 42 yet and I'm getting nastalgic... Reminds me of the days my old man would bang out the tunes all Sunday long. Everything from JC to Fleetwood Mac and Dire Straights.... Then onto Buddy Holly and Tina Turner.... What a lucky lad I am, was and will forever be. Music really tells a person's character.... Ah, I just love Johnny. Incomparable indeed. I miss the musical variety shows on TV. Did we stop valuing music or is there just too much content out there like TV itself?

Will someone who knows Kristofferson PLEASE urge him to NOT
Quit creating such songs as this one as long as he can keep
making them. I am strongly convinced that these songs of his
will remain popular long after anything that he makes for
Hollywood has been relegated to the dust of the past.
