I saw since the first boom that they would die. Like it is ridiculous that someone would actually buy something they could just copy with a snipping tool. There are copyright laws already that try to secure copyright holders rights and nfts dont really make it any easier to hold yours.

I've been on the internets since 89. It's best used as a tool for communication, collaboration, and connection, not artificial scarcity.

You know what's nonfungible? Meatspace. You can't right click and save the oil painting I finished yesterday.Reproductions can't capture the texture or translucence/specularity of real paint.

I was a digital artist first, but with AI generators robbing and poorly mimicking human artists, and driving people out of work for NFT bros treating the digital equivalent of early 2000s random avatar generators as "art", I'm glad I turned to traditional art.

Not that I'm fool enough to expect to make money selling art— artists generally don't, especially women.

But like a lot of quiet middle aged women you see in nondescript yoga pants who were frugal and saved,I made my nest egg the boring, old-fashioned way, investing in mutual funds and stodgy but dependable stocks like O'Reilly Auto Parts, VISA, and AnheiserBusch. There's something to be said for an 8-12% longterm return. It's not sexy, but it still works.


I highly recommend mutual funds at someplace like Edward Jones or TRowecPrice to any 20something who's able to put anything aside — even a few hundred dollars here and there adds up, if you can hang on and let dividends or compound interest or capital gains accumulate. (And don't worry, you won't get anywhere near the hundred million where a capital gains tax kicks in. Or if you do, don't be so greedy, you can afford to support the programs that help other Americans.)

The most surprising thing about the downfall of NFTs, is that people actually bought into such a nonsense product type in the first place. NFTs were the perfect example of mass hysteria creating the illusion of legitimacy. There's a case to be made that the only group involved with NFTs who actually understood what was actually going on, were the scammers.
