Just to draw out the "why do we fall?" metaphor a bit further, from a space nerd perspective: In orbital mechanics, a body that is orbiting another is constantly falling (a.k.a. free-fall), and it requires an enormous amount of lateral velocity to prevent that orbit from decaying. So c'mon FDev - hit the boost and stabilize this orbit! You only hit the ground if you slow down. We're counting on you - I just hope you've got the delta-V for it...

Frontier needs to go under and sell Elite to a competent developer that actually cares about the game and its players.

This time fdev is actually struggling so they have no choice but to support these titles and games!

Hello! I am not completely new in the game, but started again with odyssey where i ended back then in horizons. But I miss a troubleshooting board badly - not concerning bugs, but concerning cryptic jobs like right now the guardian artefact research needing a second object - no idea what is meant. If there is something out there its well hidden, I desperately look for exchange - my discord makes troubles...- 1000 thx for any helpful info!

One of the problems which Elite has, paradoxically, is a loyal fan base that has played for years. A friend of mine took it up recently with a shiny new VR headset & 3070 card and was so excited to actually land his hip in a space station without broking the letter box! We old timers forget the joy of the early small wins and the sense of exploration because - well, we've seen it all before and are competent pilots. How many games can hold your attention for hundreds or in some cases thousands of hours?
I can kind of see why they went down the on-foot route (although not for me) as a way of expanding the game, but forgoing VR was a major mistake - VR is growing steadily, and Elite should be the absolute poster-child for VR use as it is *spectacular*!

Thanks for the vid, these are my last connection to E:D these days. Not going to bother getting my hopes up, so if they really give us something awesome, it'll be a pleasant surprise for me. But these videos are incredible and have so much character, so I won't be leaving the channel any time soon.

I would like the aircraft carrier to refuel tritium fuel automatically without the player's involvement. But: 1 - only to the fuel tank without the possibility of removing this fuel from the tank, 2 - the aircraft carrier would have to be in orbit of a planet with rings containing tritium deposits, 3 - we have to scan the planet and the rings ourselves to see if it contains tritium deposits, 4 - refueling speed, for example 100 units per hour.

"it genuinely feels different this time" - I will believe it when I see it. For now, I'll remain impartial.

It’s all well and good the devs saying they’re going to do things and then don’t show it, actions speak louder than words and they’ve lost so much because they’ve alienated 70% of their player base for ED by failing to deliver on their promises and only focusing on the PC community

I don't know what the future of Elite: Dangerous is, but I just hope it continues for a while, and that we get more entries into the franchise in the future. This is so much more to us than just a video game, or at least to me. I can't speak for everyone, but I think I'm right in assuming others feel the way I do about this awesome space sim that gives us the entire Milky Way to explore. I personally think it needs to be shown to as many people as possible, because I think it's the type of thing that will get the attention of people who don't even play video games but love astronomy. I could be wrong, but I don't think I am.

I just love this game and this franchise, and I want it to outlive me.

Bring back console support fdev. Not everyone has a gaming pc, nor want one. Oh well I guess.

I hope the game will not die. I Played it so much.

I've given this game 3 full playthroughs of their respected content at their times. Financial reset to Xbox a year after the attack in 2017. Did an account port so I had to restart a 3rd time on PC, accumulating a total of 12,000 hours across the board.

There is nothing left in this game for me to do that is rewarding enough to bother with. Elite is so time consuming. I've sold my HOTAS and everything, I think I've finally retired from Elite for good. It will take a real miracle for FDev to compell me to return.

There was a serious love that was well presented in the first years of the game. Conventions, the enthusiasm from the devs. Odyssey made it clear who's voices were more important; shareholders. And I'm so glad they all suffered an 80% loss.

I have to say, the inconsistency with the Elite live stream over the past year pissed me off enough to not want to log into the game.

If update 18 added ship interiors that would be awesome

I try to keep an open mind, Frontier don’t make it easy. I believe in what I see more than what I hear….

Something I've said multiple times is that whether it adds any gameplay or not, give us ship interiors and / or player housing of some sort, and let us decorate and customise it. There are few better ways to give players a sense of ownership and presence in the game, and it's a license for FDev to print money by selling premium cosmetic items. You can also link it to gameplay, with decorations and cosmetics being crafted, or awarded for meeting milestones (first thargoid kill, 1 bil Credit trade profit, 50 pirate kills, etc.), found during exploration, looted after combat, and so on.

i would like a lot like several console comanders are waiting for this company managers allow to the console community to get back in some way to the universe that pc players had right now also allow to console commanders to get twitch drops and allow us to use buy in game cosmetics for our commanders ship kits , new ship kits ( beluga exploration kit) for example allow to console comanders to use the scorpion srv and finally to fdev to program the capacity of cmdrs to construct their home bases in wich planet they want all those things are a ver easy job programing

So... About that major feature rework promised to appear in 2023?

yea, basically with bullshit they made recently, ED is dead.

Downscaling can be good if done intelligently. The Dayz dev team is tiny and manages to keep enough people interested that the game is in the top 20 Steam games every day.
With a smaller team FD can relax a little and not try almost stealing from customers to pay for a bloated workforce the fans are unhappy with. I'm looking at you duplicate ship kits that only offer new paintjobs.

My fear is they replace the outgoing galnet writer with an A.I substitute.

Damn, six years. The fact that you can find such great places to shoot for six years in a row is mind-blowing.

I think they're going to announce new galaxies and inter-galaxy travel.

E:D is a complicated thing. For new players, it’s amazing. The scope, the visuals, the flight dynamics. For old badgers like me (I was a Kickstarter) with 1,000+ hours in the game the promised developments which turned into abject failures and the poor way the community was engaged on these issues led to much bitterness. FDEV is now a money generating listed commercial entity, not the loved baby of David Braben, and E:D is struggling to wash its face anymore (although this could be fixed with paid ships and grind bypassing). We should not be surprised to learn that any new developments will be minor, the problems will not be fixed, communication will once again grind to a halt and the game euthanised before its full potential could be realised. I only hope they do the right thing and make an offline version before the ventilator is turned off. Most of all, I hope I’m wrong. I’ve loved the series of games since the Amiga days, and have met many cool people along the way.

We heard what they said. Now lets see what they do... Such a waste for last years.

I don't know where are these expectations are coming from. ED dev team experienced lay-offs very recently so how can anyone think we're gonna get anything new?

I'm afraid this game is dying, far too many poor development decisions have been made to save it... The only thing you can do is to let it go and start from scratch

I know this is as likely as finding a truthful politician, but I really hope that Frontier will reconsider porting Odyssey to Xbox Series X & PS5. There are many of us in the console community that still play and/or follow the game that cannot or choose not to make the rather pricey jump to PC.

F dev has disappointed and let me down too many times to count. I’ll believe it when I see it.

Or they’re financial debacles will eventually get the best of them first.

Thanks for the update as usual. I hope the leaders at Frontier right their ship this year. Elite still has great potential regardless of all the hurdles it's had.

Here's hoping we are all pleasantly surprised by the stream.

I would like to see what will ppl do with ship interiors if they ever get one. Interiors without gameplay to fill it in are useless.

Frontier rolled the dice and lost trying to go toe to toe with the triple AAA industry. I hope they really do refocus on their core portfolio, safely build back up and make safer bets in the future.

this could be a huge turn around for elite, the game has such a fantastic base and just needs the right support and direction

So FDev are going to announce several new paint jobs that can be purchased and a new xeno weapon you can grind to get. Anything more than that will be overkill and not well thought out. I really hope I am wrong.
