This really does work. I started doing this today and I've already improved my up-tempo swing.
ОтветитьTeacher ....Respect
ОтветитьI think the hardest bit with this technique is the catching motion. I find it hard to get an even flow and same power in the catching stroke than the others. Great video btw. Everybody that haven't got his book Art of Bop drumming, should really go out and buy it. It has helped me a lot with my jazz drumming.
Ответитьi think the best way to do this is not to think about. just hit the cymbal and bounce dat stick
ОтветитьDimais isso.
Ответитьwhat a masterful teacher.
Ответитьthe hardest part for me is comping on my left hand while trying to keep time with my right
Ответитьthank You, master! :)
ОтветитьWhat a great video, and what a great teacher!
Ответитьvery informative, great teacher
ОтветитьI'm going to learn how to play at this speed if it kill me.
Ответитьwhat cymbals?
ОтветитьExcellent video! You always have a way of breaking things down so you can realize that everything thing we hear, see and or play is just a matter consistent practice, with nothing but progress to follow!
ОтветитьI think having lessons from John Riley would be phenomenal!
ОтветитьA CLOCKWORK DRUMMER ON YOU TUBE.."..THE CURE"
Ответитьthis will help getting the speed up on the ride. I'm a beginner in playing jazz. It looks like this exercise will also help with my ride playing tempo in general. I learn so much from watching your videos. Have you got a DVD out teaching beginning jazz? I know about your book and c.d. It's just the way I learn is more visual.
ОтветитьQuick hands, good practice ideas thanks.
Sound would be more enjoyable done on a 22 or 24" heavy ride cymbal.
My teacher back in 1998, in my first jazz lesson recommended his book to me, I still have it. Totally recommend it!
Ответитьhe's like totally relaxed while basically breaking the sound barrier
ОтветитьGreat book. Am working thru it now.
ОтветитьThank you! And God bless!
ОтветитьGreat video. John Riley is an absolute monster player and educator. His "The Art of Bop Drumming" book is a staple! I'm learning still, always, what an adventure..
Ответитьclass!
ОтветитьMMMMM That's some good flicking right there.
Ответитьmagnificent !
ОтветитьHe looks ripped. Is he ripped? Anyone ever shift him?
ОтветитьGood video, but i like clean sounding ride. Yours is way too echoy and washy. Just sayin😎
ОтветитьGreat demonstration on ride technique but that ride cymbal seems to be to washy , lacking clarity
ОтветитьGreat lesson, terrible ride cymbal. Sounds like a broken garbage bin.
ОтветитьVery helpful. Thanks
Ответить...great instruction, To the Point, well demonstrated....thanks for making this available to the world ....
Ответитьthis is insane, he goes so fast
ОтветитьDidn't know Vince McMahon played drums.
ОтветитьOh man that suggestion to practice using the shuffle beat was immensely helpful for me, thank you!
ОтветитьThat's fast 😬
ОтветитьDEMOLEDOR!🔥
ОтветитьBut how does he play the repeated 16th bits ?
ОтветитьWow!!
ОтветитьMet Riley when he went to my university. Cool guy
ОтветитьRhythm for what?
ОтветитьLove this. This is what I use in my playing and it makes fast swing so much easier. His books are amazing as well.
ОтветитьBrilliant!
ОтветитьFrench grip?
ОтветитьThis is a timeless lesson
Ответитьthis is pure gold
