This is what happened to me a year ago while coming back from grutas tolantongo. Got stopped three times on the way back to Mexico City. Twice by corrupt cops asking money or they wouldn't let me go. Third time there was a road block with guys dressed all in black and with black rifles. I had a hunch something was off so drove full speed through the check up. A guy on a motorbike tried to chase me on the highway but I was able to loose him by taking the first highway exit. I think we got very lucky. Mexico may sound tempting. It is cheap. It is beautiful. It is also risking your life. Once is enough. Never again.
