My 5700xt is only $72 on Jawa. I could sell locally for higher. Its almost as if they took Newegg trade-in offers.

I'm in a similar dilemma. What should I choose ? I can find new RX 7800 XT or the RX 6950 XT for almost the same price.
My monitor is Acer Nitro XV340CKP Ultrawide HDR Monitor QHD 3440x1440 @144Hz. Is the 6950 still a valid choise ? Does it worth the +130Watt ?

I am pretty much an amd fanboy, but damn they suck at rt. At 500$ and capable of ultra 1440p, u would definitely expect to crank the rt to max settings, the 7800 xt is a beast at 1440p after all, it just misses the RT part. How come the intel did it perfectly in the first try?

When I was shopping, I felt like AMD's exclusive board partners like XFX, Sapphire and Powercolor were all companies I wanted to support. I ended up with an XFX card, as they have an amazing product with a great warranty, but I wouldn't hesitate to go with Sapphire or Powercolor in the future.

I bought my 6800 xt 6 months back. I'm gonna be real with you, I live in the southern US, and that baby heats up the room real good if I push it. At this point, I've stopped maxing things out, undervolted my cpu/gpu, and capped my fps much lower than my monitor can handle in demanding games just to mitigate some of the heat it's spewing into my not so well ventilated room. I'm kinda feeling like I should've gotten the 4070, but the extra vram and much lower price were what put me onto the 6800xt in the first place.

As someone that traded in their 7900xtx for a 4090 I'll say this: It's almost impossible to recommend a 4070 over a 7800xt. The 7800xt is simply a much better card for the money. You should be using optimized settings and mid level RT at best at the midrange anyway, so you'll get even better performance than what was shown here. FSR will get better, and it can be turned on at a driver level for any title, so there's that.

I am SOOOO glad I just went and bought my 6950XT Nitro in december 2022. That was my last Fuck YOU to Nvidia with all it's shenanigans. Zero regrets, I don't care about raytracing and we'll see what FSR3 will bring.
And I think that the fact that AAA devs are now BUILDING games like "Fuck optimization! DLSS3 will double the framerate!" is a very bad and ominous thing for consumers. Come on, AAA is a complete shit in terms of optimization as of now, making it even worse??

Swedish pricing 2023-09-26:
Radeon RX 6800 (non-XT): 5990 SEK ($540)
Radeon RX 6800 XT: 7153 SEK ($645)
Radeon RX 7800 XT: 7190 SEK ($649)
Geforce RTX 4070: 7590 SEK ($685)
Radeon RX 6950 XT: 7779 SEK ($702)

The non-XT 6800 is looking GOOD. The 6800 XT is too close in pricing to the 7800 XT to be relevant. The 4070 is "only" $36 more expensive than the 7800 XT, so if you're a die-hard nVidia fanboy or building for a tight thermal envelope, feel free to get the worse deal. The 6950 XT, like the 6800 XT, doesn't look good price-to-performance-wise next to the 7800 XT.

Both cards costed the same during a recent deal on Ebay from a major hardware seller here in UK (Some of them also sell on Ebay for some reason). I had a choice between 7800 XT Nitro+ from Sapphire & 4070 Windforce OC from Gigabyte. I went for 4070 as in the end I wasn't super pleased with my 6700 XT + I was curious about DLSS and other Nvidia features.
RT feels a bit overhyped but DLSS seriously feels like dark magic that makes some games look better than native (but not better than DLAA) while boosting your overall performance. Frame gen and DLDSR are nice too. I haven't even touched on AI yet.

Overall, if 4070 RTX costed 100 quid more (which it normally does) I'd probably go for 7800 XT from Sapphire as it's the ultra high end model for that card and it overall seems to run 5 to 10% faster in raster.
But with the same price I think Nvidia is still a no brainer. Their features are simply better, the GPU is also more efficient - drawing 185W at most while never reaching 60 degrees Celsius and being dead quiet.

Then again I just came from AMD and I think their options are definitely viable, especially in the budget segments. 4060 & 4060 Ti make 0 sense because of the vram limitation. 12gb is okay at my resolution but I wouldn't recommend it if you plan on playing at 4k or 3440x1440.

It has a memory interface and memory capacity that are too small for 4070 labels.
Still, the price is ridiculous.

the thing is, if you can generate normal frates in enough numbers, then its always better then dlss or fsr. If i cant generate, then i just lower resolution.
So till raytracing isnt a base feature of 90% games (and still its a minority function) then its just an add on (maybe if you count in 4080TI or 4090 - here you can count it as base function as the cards are powerfull enough to run almost any game on it.

I almost shat my self when i heared the nvidia clown talking about dlss frames being the real ones and native resolution being "fake ones". Nvidia seems to feel the pressure from AMD.

RX 7800XT consumes 70-100w more to give 10-30% more performance compared to RTX 4070. Kind of a bummer for me since I own a 650W PSU and to upgrade to 7800 XT, I would need to upgrade my PSU to 750W.

Why is noone considering the energy coast in their calculation? The lower price of AMD is getting sucked up by the higher coast of energy over time. My location is germany and cards coast almost the same here. For exampe if you calculate 2h gaming with a 100 watt difference 7 days a week, the AMD Card will coast you 20 € more per year. With rising enery coast or longer pctime this makes the cards at least equal in price over time.

Try downclocking that 6950XT to 2300-2400 and watch the power draw tank with almost no performance loss. I've dropped mine to 2200 Core clock, lost around 8-10% performance and powerdraw is now 200watts peak.

Got a 6950 XT before the 7000 series pricing became apparent, not regretted it given the time I had to make that worth it. However if I were to buy now I would get a 7800 XT or one of its bigger brothers for sure.

6950 XT has been my first "team red" card in two decades, and honestly I haven't tested FSR2 on a game and liked it yet, it has severe issues with ghosting, visual defects and more, it's just not worth running. I haven't run DLSS on a daily driver PC so far, but it does appear noticeably better, so while I think AMD are the absolute best bang for your buck in general. If you are going to be using upscalers then Nvidia is the best choice at the moment it seems.

I hope AMD can properly enter the upscaler battle with FSR3, and I hope it runs well on the 6950 XT, but I am prepared to continue to just not use upscaling. I knew when I bought the 6950 XT that FSR wasn't that good and I was prepared to not use it. FSR was indeed not good and I am not using it.

for cards like these, testing at 1080p is a bit redundant, since at 1440p with upscaling at quality we are already rendering at 960p.
Also with 1080p with cards like these using upscaling would make the image look really bad, and even when done due to vram limitation, at this resolution dropping texture quality to high or medium would still yield a better looking image than using upscaling at 1080p
