Is Instagram Threads Dead As We Know It? Organic TikTok Reach Might Get Harder With This New Update

Hello dear. I’m in the EU and we got access to Threads and the end of December. I started getting organic growth with Threads and after a few days I made 3k followers. I would love an update about Threads.

It's crazy to see how fast trends come and go. "Planet of the Bae" had me cracking up 😂. Also been loving how Taylor's "August" trend has inspired so many memories. I actually used boost app social to add a unique spin on that trend for my IG. The results? 🔥

Many signed up to THREADS simply to protest against Twitter. Twitter has always been toxic. And it has declined even more under Elon Musk's terrible management now rebranded as "X". For others maybe it was just the hype of a new social media thing and fear of missing out... In any case, Threads has a lot of work left to do if they want to be taken seriously long term.

the integration is tiresome on threads. my post on ig should be able to automtically post on threads like it does fb. i shouldnt have to pst again on threads when i typically forget its there

The problem with Threads is it offers nothing new - and the worst part about it is the platform doesn't push smaller brands/creators at all. It's just another application striving to steal time out of people's lives in exchange for literally no return unless you've already got well over 500k followers. In essence, it is crap.

Overall I think I'm getting it. I'm primarily active on TikTok simply because that's easiest for me right now. Where I get stuck is that my content leans HEAVILY on creativity and I'm not great at thinking outside the box of your travel or coffee guru examples. Also because my content tends to be more time consuming what cadence should I strive for? I debate if I'm really in your target market honestly.

Would you consider a video geared toward us creatives? As I study the app, I think your advice could give me some distinct advantages over the competition but I need the crayon version. 😊

I like stories more than reels and now with captions, I can tell a story and make people feel like they are reading a mini book (very little text tho…)

Also story captions are an accessibility feature. Previously stories didn't give you anywhere to add an image/video description, like uploading images to the feed does. Making accessibility features more prominent in social apps means more people use them and less social content is inaccessible to disabled users, as so much is now.

It looks like there's still 15 million DAU on Threads...really nothing to scoff at. That's still more active users than any of the other Twitter alternatives that have popped up. Bluesky is probably the second biggest and they'd barely passed 1 million last time they released numbers.

I understand the need to compete but often feel like these platforms are ruining their user base by jumping to follow other platforms trends and confusing their core users.

Everyone seems to be drifting through a sea of options and they are sharing content to all of them or seeing the content repurposed.

A wise content creator once stated, “pick one and try to be the best at it” 😊

Maybe some of the many platforms could use that advice.

Until Threads has an API that will allow me to crosspost, I don't think I can devote much time to that - given that it's a ghost-town.
(I'm feeling the same about bsky - even with the API, it's mostly a place for folks to complain about Twitter.)

I wish Threads would allow search capability - I quit Twitter but want to search for the type of content I used to see on Twitter, which is not the same as what I like to see on IG. Also, there are already waaaaaay too many ads on TT and I continuously see the same 5 ads no matter how many times I mark them as spam😒

My biggest reason I haven't used threads is because if I don't like it and want to delete my account I have to delete my instagram account, too? That's just very weird.

Wait until people are able to delete their threads without deleting the instagram acct. A lot of account will simply disappear from there.

I'm sure people with hearing impairment would appreciate the captions. or audiences who listen to content muted, which is very common. seems like an amazing option for boosting accessibility of content, not sure how you missed that.

Instagram has never copied anything. It's Snapchat that copied the Stories feature. TikTok copied Instagram Reels and captions on Stories. Captions on Stories are an original feature of Instagram, which TikTok copied. Instagram is such an original app.
