That is a fabulous find. Loved the personal note added to it. Pity it ended up in a thrift shop and didn't stay in the family. I guess that's another story !
ОтветитьSo interesting
ОтветитьWhat a wonderful find!! Thank you for all the interesting information. The pattern on the top of the cake stand reminds me of the old TV test patterns.
ОтветитьScott, I love all your videos!
I would keep that forever ! ❤
What a wonderful find. I love it. Thank you so much.😊
ОтветитьI bet it was wedding flowers from the original wedding cake, 1880’s
ОтветитьBoy, that’ll get your heart a fluttering 🥰! At first I thought perhaps an old secret recipe for a favorite family cake 🎂…but oh, this is even more delicious! Love the peek into history & what it tells us about the everyday lives of folks. A lovely find Scott & happy it fell into your hands. It’s great fun being a detective isn’t it 🥰?!
ОтветитьFinding those hidden gems inside an antique purchase is always a nice bonus! I found some ephemera inside a late 1930's Philco radio, but it wasn't anything important -- just some junk that found its way inside there. It certainly wasn't as eye-catching as finding that mini floral arrangement inside the salver. Grandma Rainey is smiling down on you from the heavens above!
ОтветитьOh, I love this! I’ve never found anything quite that exciting!
ОтветитьThis is an absolutely fascinating find! The best I've done is to find some WWII rationing coupons in one of my grandmother's books.
ОтветитьThe only surprising find I found in/on an antique is the 5th layer of paint on an oak Hoosier cabinet I restored in the late 1970's
ОтветитьI love this video. Precious memory. Thank you for sharing the history. This cake salver was entrusted to you, please consider keeping it.
ОтветитьAn amazing find, and I'm so happy to see that you'll be making some good money on this in your eBay store. The cork insert with fabric flowers puts this piece in a class of its own. I doubt any others have survived with that intact. I do want an eapg cake salver, and I'll find one, but this one will always linger in my memory.
ОтветитьScott, I can’t think of anyone better to find this wonderful piece of history. Your excitement is contagious! Congratulations!
ОтветитьWhat a wonderful idea to put a little decoration in there,it could have been from their wedding cake ,so wonderful to see thank you.👍😀
ОтветитьWe called my great grandmother Grandma and my grandmother was Granny. Grandma was her mother-in-law and they were not friends. I cringe to this day when my adult kids who never met either mistake their names because I know my Granny would be deeply insulted. I was excited to find an old address hidden in a mid century vase I was cleaning today, but that now seems a rather dull find after this. The address popped out as I was rinsing it for the second time and I thought it was a bug at first since many old vases end up bug coffins if they sit long enough.
ОтветитьAmazing!
ОтветитьScott why did you tear the price tag off ? We all know this is how you make a living but we would like to know when you found these treasures and what you paid for them.😀😀😀
ОтветитьWhat a thrill. It may even keep me awake now with the thrill of the hunt …or I’ll be dreaming of chasing sparkling glass treasures. It really is an exquisite cake plate. Someone special needs to adopt it. ♥️
ОтветитьLove this. Thanks Scott.
ОтветитьI agree, a momento from a wedding cake, served on the salver, part of the decoration, lovely ❤️
ОтветитьI find the paper ephemera fascinating records and artifacts as well. I have a typed correspondence signed by Max Factor (cosmetics) to another company making apologies for a patent infringement allegation. When businesses closed, then often, business correspondence and records were sold at auction along with the equipment and furnishings. More so the small family businesses. The larger corporations records were often donated to colleges and universities. I have bought many fascinating documents from private collectors, liquidators of collections, and ephemera auctions. I think Patrick has discovered that paper intrigue and has been bitten by the ‘bug’. I bought literally thousands and thousands of postcards, letters, advertising items. I have returned a few items to institutions, but found it often difficult because they lack the funds or staff to curate and properly preserve paper. Everyone has state and local historical societies that will allow you access to many treasures and collections. You could spend a lifetime researching at the National Museum of American History: Kenneth E. Behring Center at the Smithsonian. When Google was extensive, I found a reference to a known California ceramics company just sitting there at the Behring Museum, a collection with 18 documents untouched, maybe undiscovered. Have fun. Our past is rich with significance/insignificance lost. It all documents our cultural revolution and evolutionary transitions as a society. Often progress, but many times failures.
ОтветитьI have learned so much about antique and vintage glass from you. Your videos are educational and fun. Thanks.
ОтветитьI think it says 10 INCH SERVER. Make sense ? 🤔
ОтветитьDoesn't get any better than that! Wonderful!
ОтветитьI remember the term 'silver salver' now I know what it means!
ОтветитьIn an old 1940s cookbook I found a piece of paper w recipes for feeding calves and goats! In another one (same era) I found several clippings from the newspaper of dress patterns. They were still putting those in the paper in the 60s and 70s! Thanks Scot for all your vids!😊
ОтветитьI am so happy you are finding/selling more old cake stands. There are lots of cake stand collectors out there!
ОтветитьThis is fabulous 😍 and the response on ebay is proof 👏
I knew there would be flowers 💐😊 incredible still in in there
I loved this story! What a beautiful piece of glass. Thanks for sharing all the information
ОтветитьHow about RILEY
Ответить👋🙌👍
ОтветитьOh my word, Scott!!! What a fabulous find 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻. It’s amazing to me how these things survive all these years. So happy you’re the one who found it ☺️. Enjoy the rest of your evening. 🕊️😉
ОтветитьI just found an S & H Green stamp inside of a 70s chalet music box I listed in my Etsy shop. Not an antique but an exciting find for this 70s girl. It brought back memories for sure! Congrats on your amazing find!
ОтветитьIts beatiful.
ОтветитьI had a Grandma and a Mamaw.
ОтветитьThanks Scott. What a story!
ОтветитьI’m invested in this find now! Well done, Scott.
ОтветитьUnbelievable! What a find…whoever obtains this, will have a real treasure! 🇨🇦👏🇨🇦

ОтветитьThank you for putting another smile on my face, Scott. Lord knows I don't need to purchase anything from you, but I'll be sure to continue to view your vids, enjoy them and give 'em a thumbs up. A surprising bit of history came along with that well-loved antique cake plate. Thanks for being the curious character that you are. Ahh .... Enjoy your iced tea on your breezy 1920s porch. : )
