The proof that this book will never find an end is because he is a gardener and not an architect type writer. Gardeners are life long in their pursuits, the journey is more important than the destination, but if you get easily distracted on a loose pebble laying akimbo on a fence post and find it as profound as the finest of all moments in time and forget your shoes are untied and fall on your next step and find yourself knocked out because of the trauma to your brain will you be able to remember the reason why you were contemplating the intricacies of the air as you were reminded of your laces and looked down and as such your eyes were drawn to the most curious thing.....a lone pebble on a fence post. Oh the life this wonderous shard of earth's crust must have endured to become a pebble and then catch the gaze of the first of many or was it just the one that was enamored enough to pluck it from the ground and carry it as far as they desired it's company only to discard upon the same if not lesser whim than their acquiring of this hidden treasure.... I hope eventually he either gives up on the remaining books or finds another era to explore.

At this point, after releasing Winds of Winter he should delegate the heavy work of writing Dream of Spring to other authors while he just edit and coordinate the project. Like, "this happens, this happens and this happpens, and this is overall how it ends; now figure out how the story travels between these points"

You know, I find it funny that people in these comments call him lazy when he's written and accomplished far more in his life than they have...

It's also obvious from this interview even that the length of the new book is far bigger than any previous ones, I can only imagine the amount of proofreading to make sure there's no silly story/narrative mistakes the further along you go. A writer also needs inspiration... do you want a good read or a rushed product from someone who just wants to cash out and doesn't actually care about the quality of his work? 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

If I had 3 wishes, I'd use 1 to give George R.R. Martin his youth back. He would have all the time in the world to write anything else he wants.

Seventeen and a half minutes of not writing.

I just don't care what he says at this point. He has blown it, he is past his best work and needs to let it go. The solution is to do what others have said, and what Tom Clancy did in his later years, and work with other younger like-minded authors as journeymen writers to flesh out his outlines. He can do the major plot lines in no more than one chapter a month, and let his co-authors write all of the dialogue to drive the vehicle to where he has mapped out that it should go. If he hates the result, tell them to do a re-write! He is simply no longer able to do the work to write a major novel. Fucking admit it, and do what it takes to let the fans get the last two books in their hands. If he keeps on doing what he's (not) doing, no one will ever see these books.
