Back then “Sunday mystery movie” (looked forward to it every week on a crappy 25” color TV that I had to take out a bank loan to buy) …..today “a bunch of garbage” on a superb 55” flat screen that cost $400….back then 3 or 4 channels with something worth watching on each one ……today 1300 channels with nothing worth watching on any of them except some PBS CHANNELS

That was a nice moment on his way to the stage where he stopped to give Mike Conners (star of Mannix) a hug. I assume that Conners had also been nominated but either way it looks like it was all love between the two of them.

He will always live in my Soul as Grandpa from the Princess Bride. No movie matches it. It was so legendary and from a higher level of light.

I was completely floored when I learned that Viola Davis graduated from the same high school, in Central Falls, RI, that I did, but mine was way back in 1952. God bless her for her compassion and for being so generous.

Just one more thing. I was waiting to see if he would use that phrase, in his speech. The writers, of that show, did a great job, but choosing Peter Falk for the part was genius!

Like others Peter Falk as Columbo makes us think of our dad or other relative dad and his enthusiasm turned us all on all of us kids to all the classic television shows David Janssen as The Fugitive Dick Van Dyke Mary Tyler Moore in the Dick Van Dyke Show Peter Graves Martin Landau Barbara Bain Greg Marsh Peter Lupus Mission Impossible Peter Falk as Columbo and to many others to mention by the way Peter Falk excellent in a movie with Alan Arkin known as the in-laws absolutely positively hilarious and of course as grandpa in The Princess Bride one of the all-time great movies

I was somewhat expecting Peter Falk to solve murder whilst accepting the award! Started watching Columbo now. Took a bit of time to get used to the format of the show but hell it's masterful! Probably one of the best, if not the best detective show I've seen! Saw an episode with Leslie Nielsen on it, was very pleased!!

In each episode you know who did it right from the start, but still great how he walks in his own trap that gives it all away.

I saw him in a german language film by Wim Wenders sort of playing in character as himself on a small but meaningful part. Did the role brilliantly. 1987 film in English (subtitles) "Wings of Desire" released in Germany as "Der Himmel über Berlin" (the sky above Berlin). Magical film, one which I was glad to see in a traditional cinema. Worth reading the wikip write up in English before watching.
