So, in English, when you look forward to something it means that you're excited about it. It means that you are happy that something is going to happen. It means that you smile when you think about something that is going to happen. I look forward to a few things. I look forward to a day when I'm semi-retired, when I can work a little bit less. I look forward to a time when COVID-19 is over, when we've found a virus. I hope that all the scientists in the world are working hard on that, and I appreciate that they are. You might look forward to a time when you can speak English fluently. Maybe you already do, but maybe you are looking forward to a time when you'll be able to speak English like a native speaker. So, in English, when you look forward to something it means that you're excited about it. When I was a lot younger, I was always looking forward to any day where I got to be with Jen. So, when you look forward to something, it means that you smile and think about how happy you'll be when it happens.

This doesn't have any emotion with it. It's simply a phrase we use when we are talking about the past. So, if I say, I look back on my time at university fondly, that means that when I look back, when I think about when I was younger, when I think about the time when I was at university, it means that I smile when I think about it. So, when you say that look back on something, it simply means that you are remembering it. It doesn't mean that you are happy about it or sad about it. You do need to add that emotion with other words. So, it's not like the phrase look forward to where built into the phrase is the emotion of happiness. When you look back on something, it's simply the act of remembering it. So, when I look back on my day in university, I think that I certainly had less responsibility than I do now.
