I think Ray Reardon would have of been good in any era, great temperament, as seen here. Table looked dreadful and all the noise! Although I loved Alex Higgins he was too inconsistent
ОтветитьCommentary from Ted Lowe was dreadful and poorly researched
ОтветитьGold dust. What a find. Thanks. Dennis Taylor says that in the 15-2 Qtr Final defeat to Reardon that Ray played the best session of snooker against him that anyone ever has in the second session.
Ответитьhiggins had a dreadfull hangover they said in the last session here
ОтветитьGold dust from the pre-Golden Era era. Played at Forum Hall, Whythenshaw, Manchester - big civic centre only five years old in 1976. And a Riley Burwat Streamliner table, to boot! (The middle pockets do look very wide and inviting...)
Many thanks, absolutely love Ray Reardon.
Higgins showed what a nasty tosser he really was. He robbed Reardon of his victory clearance by conceding on Reardons visit. Higgins really was a big baby. Pathetic little man really.
Ответитьgreat recording of two greats of the game. Ray was special. Alex too
ОтветитьNice upload, if you ever manage to get hold of footage of Patsy Houlihan, it would be absolute magic! So so many people would love to see him play but there is zero footage other than one shot in a film he starred in. There must be some footage out there somewhere on VHS sitting in a cupboard somewhere. 🤞
ОтветитьHiggins was the personality but Reardon was the better player
ОтветитьDid I hear right in commentary? Higgins came back from 14-0 down to beat Thorburn 15-14?
ОтветитьMore videos with Ray Reardon please, he is my favourite
ОтветитьWhat happened to the red that was on the cushion? It was there one second then not another? Yet they didn’t show a clip of anyone moving it?????? Right at beginning
Ответитьno quarter final?, seemed to be first round second round then semi
Ответитьthey lose focus more in those days... fatigue, booze, smoking...their level of professionalism is unacceptable now... Steve Davis was the first real matchplay pro.
ОтветитьTed Lowe providing commentary for the blind
ОтветитьRay was brilliant but Alex was pure genius
ОтветитьYou wouldn't get players today conceding when only needing one snooker.
ОтветитьGreat upload.
Can you also upload 2001 final as well thanks.
Ray Reardon was livid the way this final ended he would've rather beat someone who wasn't pissed out of his brain 😀
ОтветитьNice to see an old final and compare the style and standards with todays! Were the snooker balls heavier in those days? They are giving off a different sound to todays ones. Ted Lowe's commentary was more lively but less technical than today's ex-players, experts.
ОтветитьLong hair bell bottom trousers smoking drinking booze, those were the days my friend.
ОтветитьI like the wonky unaligned scores that pop up
ОтветитьR .I .P Ray Reardon
ОтветитьRay Reardon The pioneer of the game R.I.P
ОтветитьIt’s impossible to compare today’s players with yesteryear totally different conditions so stop making silly comparisons !
ОтветитьThe first 10 mins were downright annoying to watch 😂 RIP fumblers! 😁
ОтветитьHiggins chain smoking
Ответитьback then women were not allowed in the auditorium . true fact
ОтветитьTeardown was a great player but if young today with the same skills is just an amateur. I can play to that standard and I'm a nobody..sorry..but true...and I'm 57
ОтветитьPerrie mans
ОтветитьGet a glimpse of Joe Davies there at the end of the second frame
ОтветитьWonderful, thank you. Brilliantly inventive safety shot by Reardon at 10.21 - simple looking but very very clever.
ОтветитьBoth can play snooker in heaven now
ОтветитьWhen did they stop using the terms "foul stroke" and "x points away"
ОтветитьProper snooker two off the all time greats
ОтветитьGo in any club today and kids are making centuries and 147s. The standard of today is 100 times better than the 70s
Ответить“ Higgins sat in a chair, smoking a cigarette and supping a glass of gin” ……Ah well never see days like this again 🙂
ОтветитьThank you for sharing this video, it was awesome. RIP Ray Reardon
ОтветитьThe old scoreboards are the best for a good game of snooker!
ОтветитьA year before it moved to The Crucible Theatre Sheffield and was recorded by the BBC and shown on Grandstand a few weeks after it was played also in those days the tournament rounds were played around the world culminating in a 53 frame final in Manchester
ОтветитьCan't believe I've never seen this having been following snooker since the early 70s..wonderful. Interesting to note the absence of the miss rule when Alex failed to get out of the snooker in the 2nd frame; Ray got straight down and the frame just continued whereas today we would've had several minutes of watching the officials replace the balls. Silly rule..needs abolishing.
ОтветитьIt’s such a shame Reardon’s best years were in the 70’s. It would have been great to see him at his peak against Steve Davies.
ОтветитьThose were the days where Higgins could puff on a cigarette between shots. You wouldn't be allowed to do that now!
Ответить200 pound high break :)
£ 2,000 pounds today, pretty good :P
dracula vs the wolfman!!
ОтветитьHad Alex gone to bed the night before and not turned up on the final day still drunk - he'd have beaten Reardon. Same in 1975 semi-final. Alex threw away too many big matches. He had to be on his top game to beat Reardon.
Ответитьwhy was the final so long back then 53 frames blimey can you just imagine ronnie o sullivan in the same situation
Ответить
