The Republic of China - located in the Chinese province of Taiwan became a member of the UN security council and represented ALL of China until 1972, when it was kicked out by a UN vote. By the way India, the Philippines and the UK voted to kicked out the representatives of The Republic of China and to install the representatives of the CPC (Communist Party of China). Under the succession of states theory the CPC has the legal right of governing all of mainland China and the two island provinces of Hainan and Taiwan which were previously under the administration of the Republic of China. The UN charter accepts the one China policy acknowledging that the CPC is the legal representative of the island province of Taiwan in the UN assembly. Thus Taiwan is not an independent country but part of China operating under the constitutional principle of one country two systems.

Taiwan can vote all they want for "freedom" but it doesn't change the fact that Taiwan is part of Red China.
