i was born near the end of this war & the hard times lingered long for our large family & many other smaller ones. we moved waaay out into the back hills & mostly lived off the land. my gosh, i can't begin to imagine how bad it was during & after the 1st World War! especially in the cities where there wasn't much land to live off & always someone to steal what ppl may have planted in their yards..... even now that is happening & the worst hasn't yet come along.

Yes, cliff Robertson is a great actor.

Why is Cliff wearing his cover indoors?

Can anyone translate the Japanese dialogue? I played this movie once in front of some Japanese folks once, for some reason, they found most of the dialogue difficult to understand... Filipino actors speaking broken Japanese maybe??? The exception was the lines delivered by Ken-san (Maj. Yamaguchi) but I've since forgotten what the translation was. Is there a copy of the movie with full translated subs?

Technically not a great movie. None of the characters were likeable, and that is being kind.

These guys are pretty noisy to be on a Jap-occupied island ... The Jap Radio equipment in the open is pretty stupid, also .

I actually read this book before I saw the movie--both good. Always confused me as to why the soldiers ran across the "no-man's land" to get back to base when belly-crawling 3/4 of the way may have been more successful.

Good action flick sheer fantasy of course the plot of this movie shows how inept the writers were in military tactics no way would anyone consider sending such a small group on a mission such as this and to yomp the length of a jungle island infested with the enemy where the obvious choice would be to land a commando unit from the sea....Still a good boys own tale of daring do.

Formulaic late 60's anti-hero tripe. The military advisor on the flick should have been courtmartialed.

I just watched Denholm Elliot in "King Rat". Seems like he had a liking for SE Asian jungle war drama.

The film, unfortunately, seems to diminish the gravity of war and the adversities faced against the Japanese army, portraying it in a somewhat trivial or disrespectful light. Furthermore, it regrettably portrays the British army in a manner that lacks the gravity and dignity that should be accorded to their sacrifices and valor.

It's a weird but exceptional movie.

A clusterfuck of a commander who fucked things up from the get go . In the tradition of Sam Fuller , Aldridge also directed the Dirty Dozen .One of Robertson's best performances. Cain as usual shows why he always delivers . Rest of the Brit actors show why they are the best at what they do .

Most have been a made for TV movie. Terrible. Portrays the Brits as lazy incompetent soldiers. Big disappointment. The technical advisor clearly saw no time in action.

According to this movie the British are literally the worst soldiers on the planet.

You don't walk through the jungle shouting and singing. You would be heard half a mile away..
