Thanks for the effort, i needed your explanation to remember this. But bottomline, less talk and getting straight to the facts, it all boils down to the following:

- su or sudo has NOTHING to do with superuser/root. IT IS NOT about root!!! Becoming root is only a part of it.
- su or sudo IS ABOUT becoming another user. It could be johnny, mary, smeagol, klingklang, and lastly root.
- A successful 'su' means you need to enter the password of the user you are about to switch to. If you switch to be klingklang, by 'su - klingklang' then you must enter the password of klingklang. 'su' without a target user, means target to root
- A successfull 'sudo' means you need to enter the password of the current user you are in. Take note, in 'su' you enter the password of the target user while in 'sudo' you enter the password of the current user.
- A successful 'su' means, you have complete freedom to run any commands as the target user.
- A successful 'sudo' means, the target user and the target command is registered in /etc/sudoers or /etc/sudoers.d/ which basically means, you are allowed to run a subset of certain commands as that target user. It is a constraint variant of 'su'.

The weird syntax in /etc/sudoers is BNF or Bachus Naur Form.
