A mistake you should never make is to wear an emblem of Germany in Belgium, a mistake on your part also, but don't, especially as a respect to the elderly. Remember that during the two world wars Belgium was occupied by the Germans.

You need to taste fries, waffles, chocolat, like three-hundred different beers (trappist, ale, brown beer, white beer, etc.)and ´neuzekes´ in local pubs and restaurants or markets. There you´ll have the real thing, Belgian streetfood is the best. If you want these glasses you can buy these glasses in liquor stores, it goes together with the beer you´ll buy and such. Also going out is best in summer. Than you´ll have tons of festivals. Like in Ghent "Ghentian fiests" is a ten day festival all over the city with different things to do. For grown ups and todlers. Something for everyone. Wallonia is more the chill side of Belgium with it's nature and forests, castles, and adventurous activities they´ll offer you. You can have a great time here. I think you missed some of the more fun stuff we can provide you with in our beautiful little country.

9 out of 10 times, if you come here in Belgium and like a certain beer glass, you can just ask if they'd sell it
some rare ones are a no, but certain specialised beer café's have tons of them as they get them for free with large orders.

Nice. I'm Belgian. It's a nice country like you said. Culture, music, nice city"s. And visit indeed others than just Brussel and Brugge. For the names on the highway there is a plan that they will change this. In Flanders they will rename the names from Wallonie in the French name and in Wallonie the same for the dutch city. Ex when you see in Wallonie Gand (Gent) it will be changed to Gent. The safety in Belgium isn't safe like you discribe. There is more and more violence and murder. In region Antwerpen they throw even grenades i don't go outside at night. Years ago there was more nightlife, like dancings (disco's). But with the stupid laws and more violence it's less now. Something i disagree is that most of the service in restaurants, pubs... people are friendly. But be friendly too. Especially the litlle ones. Don't mislead you for the pubs who serve 500 or 1000 types of beer. Leave them aside. Here we do tip but you are free to give or give not. When i go away eating or drinking i tip always. Even it's just one euro. They appriciate it. They working very hard and pays not so good. We have good food and when it was good tell them also. Trains and busses are a disaster here. Not on time, striking (staken) is one of the best things they can do. Best is hoping you get somewhere on time. Taxis are good, but you pay for them. But overall it's a beautifull country.

Culturally speaking, Belgians are closed, discreet, private, modest,... Thus it may seem that we are not being friendly. But it's nothing personal. We are happy to help. Also, when Belgians go to a restaurant we basically wanna order, get our food and be left alone so that we can enjoy our meal. We don't want pushy waiters, so they're not gonna get pushy. We don't tip, but you may. So if you need something, just ask. Anyway, love your video. You're always welcome! Grtzs from Belgium! 😊

As a Belgian, i loved this video, it's fun to see someone's perspective about us and most of the things are very true, mostly the difference in culture in different parts of Belgium. Although the thing about the bad-service is not really as bad as you make it seem. Most of the time the people are friendly (not always ofcourse) but we don't have a need for amazing service.

What a great video & so well articulated! CONGRATS! I like it a lot
and your comment about the service, this is so true! (i’m a Belgian, so i’m considering myself to be entitled to say)

many of my colleagues from abroad, always makes this joke:
“you know how you can easily double the consumption of beer in Belgium?”
“if the waiter passes twice at your table in an evening, 😉”

Keep on bringing this good stuff

Bruges, Bruges, Bruges.... we have a saying in Gent, the city you hardly mention, that just so happens to be the birthplace of the Emperor of the West. Charlemagne was one of the greatest rulers of the early Middle Ages. The Ghentians rebelled against not complying with his mandatory taxes and were severely punished for it, but we're still known for our hard-headedness. The saying goes as follows 'If you are from Bruges, go sit in the back, of the bus'. If it wasn't for the Channel that was dug between Gent and Bruges, Bruges would never have flourished due to the fact that Ghent grew rapidly in the 12th century, and by the 13th century, it was one of the largest towns in northern Europe. Its astonishing prosperity was based on the manufacture of cloth; Ghent's luxury cloths made from English wool were famous throughout Europe until the 15th century.
Let us not forget the Three Towers that are within walking distance from each other.
Is Belgium not a party place? we have an international Festivity called 'de Gentse Feesten' that lasts 10 days in a row. and most tourists pass out after a few 'Belgian' beers.
But yeah, keep going to Bruges. we hardly sell any waffles or chocolate here...

Don't tip in belgium? I would change that to "You are not required to tip". If you find the service great and want to leave a tip that's up to you. Saying that tipping is a "don't" could be seen as in japan that it is offensive, but it isn't offensive here in Belgium. You can just do it when you get a good service.

Another thing I want to add is, is that It really depends where you are. Nightlife is really booming in Gent, Antwerp,.... (no idea about brussels)
But yeah the after 6PM is quite right. XD loved the video!

Do not get out at Noordstation - Gare du Nord after dark in Brussels. It is getting worse, and unless you work around there, you shouldn't have anything to see there. Unless you want to visit the ladies of pleasure.

The names of cities on the highway are actually getting changed into one language, namely the name of where it is located. For instance, Mons, is Bergen is Dutch, that is getting changed to Mons everywhere as it is located in Wallonia, same applies for cities located in Flanders, such as Antwerpen This is ongoing and, therefore, not done on all the highways.

Man forgot the BIGGEST DON't. DON'T EVER CALL FRIES, FRENCH FRIES. DON'T EVER. Fries are Belgian not French.
Also no one cares about Jaywalking, just look at both sides of the road and don't jump in front of a car.
Also we do tip but only like 1 or 2 euro is the service was good.

What Americans call good service, a lot of Europeans call stalking. I was so shocked at how servers would not leave us alone for a second when we ate out in the USA. I got very annoyed because they were constantly interrupting our conversation, which comes off as pushy and rude to me. Ideally, service is invisible: empty glasses are cleared away without interrupting conversation, and servers are available when you need them (just give them a wave), but not in your face.

I agree with everything that is said in this video except the service thing. This is very american oriented. As a belgian I'm very happy with the way we're being treated in most places. Of course some are bad, but in general that's just the way we want and like it. The american over friendliness is just fake and annoying. It makes us think it's hypocrisy.
