I had an awesome chichi that my mother rescued from kids throwing her and catching her in their softball gloves. My mom was nice about it, as she loved everyone and did not scold other peoples' children. The mother of the girls had seen my mom doing this and came up and thanked her. Then the lady asked my mother if she wanted a Chihuahua puppy. This was the beginning of my best childhood friendship. Tippy loved and protected my mother. The rest of the family got love too, but she was momma's girl. That crazed little ball of fury was a huge part of my childhood. She did not like anyone but our family, mainly my mother, but I adored her. Tippy would let me pet her belly, then get bored, nip my hand, and run straight to my mother. It never hurt, and for some reason, I would always laugh at that little, neurotic beast's behavior and was never mad at her. She had been previously mistreated and I met her where she was, and loved her, warts and all. I DID love when know-it-alls would say "all dogs can be petted", then Tippy would chomp their hand, to which I would laugh hysterically. RIP little Tippy, I will meet you again, on the other side sweety. You can greet me with a little doggie kiss and a little, harmless bite to the hand!

Where I live, you need to take precautions to keep your little fur babies safe. Our forest comes with a lot of coyotes, cougars and eagles who will snatch up the little furries :(. Bears don't bother, but I'll never forget coming upon the remains of a little dog after an eagle snatched it. Heartbreaking. The predators are bold, will do it right in front of you. Always take note of the predators in your area, especially camping.
