It was a dark time for the ordinary people, who were ruled by ruthless and greedy men. The taxes were high and the work was hard, no one dared to oppose the mighty barons. There was only one thing the rich feared. It was The Archer. No one knew who he was or where he came from, only that he was the swiftest assassin ever seen. The only sign which showed that e had been involved were his long arrows. Often one could see purple lightning twitching over the dead body the next day when he was found. Sometimes, children who would not sleep at night or drunkards walking in the alley, would see a hooded figure. The shadow would leap from house to house in the pitch-black sky, carrying a heavy looking bow. People rumoured that he was sent by the gods to bring justice for the people. Other claimed that he was a survivour of the great war, and had become an assassin to get money. The authorities themselves said he was an outlaw, supposed to be sentenced to death once he was captured. Many bounty hunters tried to catch him, but none of them succeeded. The few who had survived an encounter with the archer had spoken of a tall figure, dressed in a ragged violet cloak. His face hidden behind a mask and purple lightning would twitch over the mask along his left arm and into the arrow he would aim with. Many of them claimed him to be from another realm. The Archer was as fast as lightning, and as silent as the shadows. He could move in the mists without being detected by dogs and he would disappear as fast as he had appeared in the first place. Leaving not a trace, except the arrow in his victim. The Archer never missed a target.



It was in a stormy night when a young boy awoke from his restless sleep. Outside his window the storm raged, threatening to break the trees which shook violently. unable the fall asleep, the boy walked to the window looking into the deep dark sky. For am moment he had the feeling a ghost would fly through the sky. It looked like the reaper himself, wearing a long dark cloak. Eager to discover a mystery the boy put on some clothes and went outside. The wind tore on his clothes but the kept walking towards the big building he had seen the ghost. With a deafening noise that sounded like the impact of something very big and very fast, a purple lightning crisscrossed the sky. The boy stopped in his tracks, perhaps he should go back into the house. But then his adventure would be over and he would be trapped in his existence again. All his life had to offer right now was following in his uncle's footsteps as a worker. So he continued towards the big house. Before entering the yard in front of the building, the boy peeked around the edge. A man was lying on the ground, an arrow penetrated from his chest. It was the cruel landlord that had suppressed the people here with high taxes. Feeling observed the boy turned around and looked up. On the house's roof stood the tall, cloaked figure. It was The Archer. Minutes passed as they looked at each other until The Archer leaped to the next roof and disappeared in the darkness. The boy tried to follow but it was no use he had lost the mysterious assassin. Not paying attention to the street the boy bumped into a man. Slowly the man turned around, his breath smelled of whiskey. "What are you doing here boy?" A grin stretched across the man's face making the boy feel uneasy. "I am sure you could be worth some pennies, ey?!" Quickly the boy turned around and started running, but the man was faster than he looked. He grabbed the boy by his arm. "Where're you going boy." The man asked slyly. Seeing himself already working as a slave in a foreign land the boy was about to give up. As suddenly a cloaked figure punched the man and placed himself in front of the boy. "You shouldn't be here." the man behind the mask said firmly. Awestruck the boy looked at the figure, when behind The Archer suddenly a blade glinted in the pale moonlight. "Be-behind you..." Was all the boy could say. But it was too late, the knife had already found its target. But The Archer seemed to feel no pain. Instead he kicked the man behind him without even looking. With a thud the man landed on the ground, he had lost consciousness. Without further questions the cloaked figure lifted the boy and jumped back onto the next roof. The boy closed his eyes, too fast was the speed of his rescuer and he feared to lose his last meal. After a while The Archer stopped and put the boy down. They were in the forest surrounding the village, an old oak tree sheltered them from the storm. The Archer sat down on a rock and pulled the blade out of his shoulder. Black blood ran out of the wound. "So, you are no of this realm..." the boy muttered. But The Archer had heard him. "I am. But I am from an era long gone." The voice behind the mask sounded softer now, not firm like in the street. "Thank you. For saving me..." the boy continued. "You were foolish to follow me. You should be home, with your parents." "I don't have any parents. They died..." the boy responded. "Well," The Archer laughed without happiness, "now you don't have a life either."

This came to me today when I saw the picture and heard the music. So I just wrote everything down in one go. Perhaps this has potential for a longer story?
