I’ve just done a 2 hour run of fishing, here’s what I found out.

You’ll want to get as little bait as 4 grubs or worms. You shouldn’t need more.
Get the quests done, get the kayak, and go straight out to sea. No where near oil.
Find the platforms, as they will be better for fishing, fishing from the driving seat of the kayak will loose your bait and the fish.
Standing in the kayak is frustrating, just trust me. You will loose bait.
On the platforms with barrels, try to find one with a high spot out of the water. standing on the low spots will loose you bait.
Don’t farm any of the barrels, this will despawn the platform faster.
Eventually you will fall into the water when the platform inevitably despawns. If you go AFK while standing on these platforms, you will probably die. Even for one second, go back to your kayak.
Bait the line and hopefully catch 4 fish. You’ll get small fish, they’ll say a low Bait number.
Never use whole little fish always gut! 30 minutes and I didn’t notice wasted time.
Gut all fish, except salmon, and sharks.
Back at the village sell all of the sharks, and all but one salmon.
Salmon provides 20 good tier bait.
Save that for another fishing trip in a box. Or eat it if your starving. You can cook one bait at a time.
This is a quick way to get scrap.

Extra tips: you will want to spend most of the night standing on the kayak, when you get good, this is the best time to fish but only when you get good. Bring low grade and a headlamp for the night fishing. Stand in the center of the kayak, and cast straight out 90° from the kayak.
When the shark bites, I use a rapid tapping motion of asd . You will want to keep the shark using (a and d) 90° from the kayaks front and rear. This shark will jump all the way across the screen in an instant and at night it’s hard to keep the bobber in the center of your screen. That’s why you bring the headlamp. You have to be quick and you will know when it’s a shark.
Like he said when the line starts making the cracking noise just stop everything don’t touch the keyboard and just put the bobber in the center of the screen. It takes 2 seconds for the fish to start moving again and that’s when you move the shark towards the casting location.

Line breaks

seas are no longer calm enough to fish, the waves will 1/2 of the time reset your rod.

I’m a master fisher.

Use 2 rods, animation cancel between catches to save time.

On wipe day if you want to snowball fast don’t run to outpost run to fishing village. Collect 2 rope and 300 wood and 30 cloth to place sleeping bag bear fishing village. Pick every plant and stump and get as much cloth as you can besides the 30 for bag. Pick up fishing quest get extra pole and fish animation cancel. Fish until you can afford a submarine and about 6 torpedos. Gut the rest of your fish and make low grade with cloth you collected. But scuba gear just in case and to pick up guns from bottom of ocean. Drive to oil rig, stay 2 grids away and fish until you see its online. Drive underwater and see if it’s active, wait for chinook and set timer for 14 mins. Drive to 25 yards of dock and get a lineup on small boat while they are fighting scientists. When timer goes off wait till they jump in water, pop up and fire every torpedo you have. Ez pz. When all dead collect their guns from bottom of ocean, drive away and make base.

I did a lot of fishing over the last 3 days. What i found is, if you fish at the fishing village, go to the edge of the docks, and fish with crappy bait first to get a ton of herring and anchovies and sardines. After you get those. Gut them, and use the meat, you'll get small sharks salmon and small trout. Due to the prices you get, gut the stuff the fishing village won't buy, sell the sharks and salmon, use the small trout whole as bait, you'll only catch salmon sharks and other small trout. Doing this over the course of 3 days, i have filled out a large portion of the tech trees in tier 1 and tier 2, and I went from near no tier 2 blueprints to having an electric powered base and garage for repairing cars which I'm gonna sell on my server near bandit camp. Fishing is insanely lucrative if not a little time consuming

Salmon are great to catch sm. sharks. Its the perfect bait level, and you can often get a small farm going to collect your salmon before making off to the ocean to collect the small shark. Set up a river base with a chair, a campfire for comfort and cooking, and its off to the races to hunt for salmon! For stealth entering the ocean, use the kayak, as most people often can hear the rhib and boat from a distance and less so with the kayak as they're mind is on doing there thing. Kayak to the spot, plop in with your scuba kit, and make off with the small sharks.

So we always gut the Anchovies, Herrings & Sardines for either better bait or food ? I just started using Fish Traps & Fishing today so all of this is very new to me...

Bunker builds and hidden loot rooms would also be good to cover if you haven't already.
