Yes yes yes. The painting is famous. But the hands look ridiculous. Only partway through, but ….

Did he use both of his hands? Is this some kind of experiment? Is part of this with his left hand and part of this with his right?

That painting reminds me of my daughter's pet ferret, "Frodo."

His name was Leonardo.

da Vinci was not his surname as being illegitimate he did not have one, at least in the customs of his people at that time

Vinci was the town he was from and da means "from"

Leonardo from [or of] Vinci

Seeing this after only knowing this painting from Animal Crossing is funny to me.
In the game, you can get a fake version which is the exact same image, but the ferret is a different color.

Is it just me, or do most famous paintings seem in desperate need of restoration? I feel like a lot of these paintings seem dull and even dirty. The varnish put on these old paintings wasn’t exactly the best, and would dull the entire painting over time. Or maybe the paint itself has faded over time. Either way, I feel like at least a good cleaning would make these paintings look more how the artists wanted us to see them.

Your comment is typical for the American/English mentality having no cultural background and any understanding of painting and European culture in Italy. My daughter laughed and remarked that the English will never understand us. They are simply too arrogant having nothing of similar greatness in art or music. However these English people are good in creating damage in colonies especially in India and never uttered any regret.

Because up to his death Leonardo da Vinci was neither married nor had he children. It seems that he had female portraits in his studio which he worked on for years but were not for sale.

One thing I've learned from this series is that some artists of great renown were not immune from creating "memes" of their own, in the past, I think. It actually brings the art works to life, IMO.

The animal is a white ferret. Definitely not a ermine which is the winter color of a stoat . It's over twice too big to be a ermine/ stoat. . Incidentally stoats are way bigger than weasels

Thank you for your very interesting video on this painting and have a few comments on the “ermine” depicted.
The comment about it being a “ugly dog” lead me to further closer inspection of the ‘ermine’ in the picture.
Size: it appears too large to be an ermine (stoat). It appears to be the larger member of the mustelid farmily, a ferret.
Ears: Weasels, ermine/stoat and ferret, have different shaped ears, being smooth rounded edge not with the slight kink.
Paws: weasels have five digits and claws (ten fingers and ten toes). There appears to be only four on each of the front paws like dogs.
Unusual differences for a scientifically accomplished artist to make.

I have had pet ferrets, and have one now so noticed the details, when claw clipping and inspecting ears, that I have given.

The coronation robes were always trimmed with spotted ermine fur but HM King Charles III used imitation fur for their robes so no animals were harm in the making of the coronation. 😊

She was in San Francisco in 2004 at the Palace of the Legion of Honor. Just her face was bannered throughout the city announcing her visit to the City By the Bay. Took my breath away. Seeing Leonardo da Vinci’s masterpiece in person still stands out in my mind as a magical moment. Love this painting. ❤She’s had quite a journey, even being stolen during WWII.
