Why didn't they try a push and click mechanism like the samsung s pen? That would not require a motor

Thats why I'm still using my OnePlus 7 Pro 🤧 I actually have two 🙃 I will never in my life use a phone with a hole punch camera 😩

My vivo V17 pro pop up camera works well.

1. They cant spy on you. Those chinese/russian/AI and Metaverse lizard loves to spy of what we are doing.
2. The scam that will pulled by the service center. When the camera not pop up or working they will insist us to change the camera, but instead it just the flexible cable that broken. Replacing that cable is cheap, but the service center ofc will try to squeeze our money ofc. So to avoid those complains they return to notch/dots
3. It takes places on phone body and board, resulting smaller spaces to put things. Also if selfie camera sensor got bigger, the motor/sensor will eat more space in board. Its better to have it inside screen than sacrificing space for the motor.
4. Most phones with this features/tech usually not waterproof/dust proof. The small gaps of selfie camera motor enough for water/dust easily enter your phone.

Until more advancement of smartphones technology like more smaller size of batteries (it eats 1/3 of phone usually), smaller boards/spareparts needed for a smartphones to work perfectly, or more durable, waterproof, and dustproof flexible motor that almost never damaged even for 5-10 years for daily uses. This pop up cam will not return.

despite being the absolute solution for a bezel-free screen, the reason why it died is very obvious

They did everything right they just dint had the Apple official stamp to standardize the feature just like everything else.

I have the OnePlus 7T pro since it came out, absolutely love the phone and never had a single problem with the pop up camera. Just bought the Xioami Redmi note 10 pro to replace it as the phone is getting out dated but still amazing.

I had one and miss it SO MUCH, I can't express how nice the screen looked and for the most part the no spying thing was the best feature. I dropped it a couple of times and literally no damage. Sad to see to go.

Im still using my xiaomi mi9t pro. 3yrs and still working fine as my secondary phone. Not a camera guy but back then it was a cool feature your selfie cam pops up and having a full screen experience. Hope in the future phone companies can develop indisplay front cameras that would replace pop up cam for a full screen experience

I have an a80 for 3 yeaes and i have no problems with the camera but the battery is smal af and it is slow af
So im buying a redmi note 11 pro+5g

no it always looked gimmicky

I have Redmi K20 pro and a clear screen without holes is treat to the eyes. it's 2.5 years and never had issues with popup camera, Unfortunately I'm planning to change phone in few months and I have to settle for ugly iPhone notch i guess.

Such a shame. Had my oppo Reno 2 with pop up camera for 2 years. Never any problems with it and no holepunch is the best thing since sliced bread
