How to Schedule a Short Film

A big part of an Assistant Director’s responsibility (or AD for short) is to schedule the shoot. This involves looking at all the elements of each scene/shot and deciding what order they should be shot in because productions rarely shoot in chronological order. Today I’m going to show you how I schedule a shoot and some of the things I think about when deciding what order to shoot in as an AD.

Of course, I could go into a lot more detail about how to schedule a shoot, so let me know in the comments below if you have any questions! Most schedules just include the scene order, but I wanted to show you a more detailed breakdown with the shots included as well.

Hi, if I have two characters talking in my scene and I will be cutting between the two talking using MS, do I need to enter each cut (when there would be a new line of dialogue) into a new shot line in the shot list/ production schedule? Or since the entire scene can be shot in two shots (one filming each person) do I need only need two shots on the shot list? Thank you in advance.
