Windows 3.1, 3.5, NT, 2000, up to 2003. Even Pro and Server versions can fit on a 750MB CD Rom. (OK, maybe a DVD or 50 Floppy disks LOL) They run on hardware with memory configuration that couldn't even boot Windows 10. All the bloat and excessive hardware resource requirements are needed to support the spyware telemetry "features". The irony is that, they say they want to keep the users safe from spyware. That translates to "keep other people's spyware out, and keep ours in".

It's pathetic that Windows is a spyware although it's a Payware. Microsoft should decide whether windows should be a Payware or an adware cum spyware but not both.

Windows 11 must be banned in europe and the development of european distros must be a top priority in the middle of a ukrain cyber war with russia, china, iran and north korea. Diversity and innovation will be the winner in defense of this war. After all 82% of attacks and ransom ware happen on priporetory software.Monopolies in software and cartels restricting hardware production is holding back innovation and growth within the European area.

You should be clear that internet enabled Chat bots GPT may effect opensource licenses as it assembles and uses iideas under GPL licenses. GPT is widely seen as an idea of erroding patent material, copywright, and official secret information.

The BSC Consulting Group beleives that Chat AI should only be used within a contained data pools.

Glad to hear thunderbird is getting revamped. Not only is the UI a patchwork. It can't export in .CSV format and it can't even import its own exported .ics files half the time(found out the hard way). So if you need to backup up you calendar make sure to grab the entire .thunderbird folder

You agree to it in the eula. Windows is doing what it can to stay relevant in the data age and they do so by collecting data. Data that ends up getting out no matter what you do. Even many Linux programs still call home. They do so by sending telemetry data to access necessary updates. Honestly, everything about you is already in the cloud thanks to banks, employers, healthcare institutions and governments. We live in an age where there are cameras everywhere, there are microphones everywhere. What you do in life has already been plugged in and there's really nothing you can do about it. Just try to remember to enjoy life rather than living in constant fear and paranoia.

My router flagged my laptop as having been attacked by a botnet the last time I installed Windows 11 on it - there were about 30 communications flagged as suspicious. The router was unhelpfully vague about where those communications were going, but they were all at the tail end of the install process so I presumed it had something to do with Windows updates. I guess that only explains part of it.

I don't understand the idea that "dated" UIs are inherently bad. I'd argue most modern UIs are far worse than Thunderbird, as they tend to make everything huge, hide options deeper in the UI (or omit them entirely) and just generally waste screen space. So hopefully they get that balance, at least with themes.

Question is -- does it stop with Windows 11? How many corporations use Azure? How many corporations store their data on Azure database servers? How many put all their passwords in Azure Keyvaults? With keyvaults you use an api written by Microsoft, to Microsoft servers to get your keyvault entry. Microsoft has been a shady company since the early 90's, and have repeatedly done underhanded things to make money. This is like trusting a known sex offender to baby sit your daughter.

Because of you Nick, i am currently running Pop OS on my gaming machine alongisde with Windows 10 cause i'm sick and tired of Microsoft's crap. I'll keep Windows on a separate drive till i get my machine fully usable with Linux. All i have to do..is either wait for better nVidia gpu drivers..or i'm just gonna swap my RTX 2070 with an AMD equivalent for that matter (i'm also planning upgrading to 32GB of ram sometime).
Ah, regarding the Windows 11 situation...well, there's not much i can say since i've only used their OS for about a month..then some updates broke the install...and i restored back to Windows 10 (i had a backup image of that whole drive in that case).
But then i decided to try a couple of distros and what i got? F***ing Pop OS running smoothly (for the most part) on my system without doing weird things like spying on me and sell my data that i didn't gave consent to as far as i'm concerned.
However, i'm still hopping from distro to distro to see if there's something that could run better on my RTX 2070 (currently Pop OS is the only thing that's so much better comparable to Fedora, Ubuntu, Manjaro and even Nobara).
I've tried many distros so far..and Pop seems the most reliable so far.
If you have a suggestion, i'm opened since i have a spare drive anyways.
Cheers!🤝

My only gripe with flatpak is that I cannot open projects and files from network shares, so I have to move the project off the server, work on it and then move it back.

…and F Microsoft and their crappy OS. Sucks I’ll be using it daily if I go WFH soon, but at least that shitty OS will stay on that specific laptop.

I’ve already moved every one of my personal PCs to Linux. My partner prefers Windows because apparently Linux is “too controlling” because every major developer prefers skips it entirely. Not our fault a greedy corporation happens to pretty much have a monopoly.

I’d rather move my partner over to the Mac at this point since my partner is a massive fan of them anyways. And it’s still a Unix-Like OS which is a bit of a win 😂
