FLYfx was called upon to help out with some of the shots in the Lemmy Movie, about Motorhead's Lead Singer. Here are a few of the shots that needed to be converted from 30 frames per second down to 24 and stabilized. As anyone knows who has tried to stabilize footage with Rolling Shutter issues - (the skewing and warping that occurs with CMOS cameras) - there is not much you can do as most stabilizing software does not correct for this problem and you wind up with stable footage that skews and warps - which is usually not acceptable. We used a combination of Furnace Plug-ins and motion estimation timewarps on our Autodesk Flame Advanced system for the frame rate conversion, then exported the clips to After Effects for the Rolling Shutter correction, then back to Flame for the final stabilization and color correct. Some shots worked well in Autodesk's stabilizer, Furnace "Steadiness" plug was used in others - whatever created the best result. You can see some artifacting on the last shot where the image tears a bit which we left in to illustrate some of the technical issues that can arise with these plug ins and techniques.

FLYfx does visual fx and finishing for commercials, film and tv in the nyc area and beyond.
